How do you figure? Ada was developed under the direction of the Department of Defense for the Department of Defense. I'm not sure what the policy is today, but for a while, it was the language you had to use if you were developing a system from scratch.
In Mozilla Mail, you can always right click on the message and choose "View Source". Turn off your preview pane, or else the HTML message will render there.
I do like the idea of plaintext-by-default. It would be easier that way.

NFSv4 looks promising to me. Of coure, that's what I thought two years ago as well. In any case, the goal for NFSv4 seems to be to take the best of NFS and AFS (and probably some other systems) and combine them.
This guy, Patrick Arthur Richard, is acting like a domain squatter, only worse.
I would argue that by registering the domain and creating the website, given that it contained all sorts of Macomb County Sheriff official business, Richard implicitly gave the rights to the site to the Sheriff's Office. Otherwise, he was impersonating the Sheriff, which he had no business doing.
That Richard didn't ask for money upfront and didn't get a contract was foolish on his part. It was also foolish on the part of the Sheriff's Office, as they now have to go through the hassle of changing their domain when everyone's used to the old one.
Beats me. Maybe, after getting spam messages day after day, these people say, "What the hell? I'll give it a try." It's just one click of the mouse to get to the spammer's website. And the websites don't look nearly as shady as the emails do.
Lots of people, sadly. Pretend you are not so web-savvy. Now pretend you need viagra. You've been thinking about buying some, but are too ashamed to do so. Then a nice offer arrives in your email - with a "discounted" price! You can order it from the privacy of your own home. This might be enough to get you to buy.
There is no "dark side" of the moon. There is a side that is always pointed away from the Earth. But it sees sunlight just as often as the other side. During a new moon, for example, the far side of the moon is getting all the sunlight.
Most Americans (including me) don't completely understand it either. Most people see the Democratic and Republican parties as institutions eqivalent to the government itself. As such, it's only natural for state and party elections to evolve together like they have.
In a way, it makes sense for the state to run the primaries anyway, as they already have the voting machines, manpower, objectivity, etc.
Technically, I don't think it is the state's business. But, the two big parties have tightly integrated themselves with the government, so they can get the state to help out by running the whole election process for them. Note that in the article there is a Democratic and Republican election judge for each position; I'm sure the parties themselves wanted it this way.
I hope someone can fill me in, but do the other parties, such as the Green or Libertarian, have primaries the way the Democrats and Republicans do? Do they enjoy the same "state sponsorship"?
Declaring war against another nation seems to have gone out of style - kind of like challenging another man to a duel has gone out of style. They still fight, but there's no formality.
Maybe Firefox is exposing some wierd driver problems. Does regular Mozilla casuse the same crashes?
When I first used Bittorrent on my Win2k box, it crashed the machine repeatedly. Turns out it was a buggy NIC driver; downloading a new version from the chip vendor (rather than Linksys, the card vendor) fixed the problem. BitTorrent was the only app to cause the crash (I guess it really taxes the network driver), but it WAS a driver problem.
They don't care about you. They are trying to get through the spam filters of big email providers. While you will delete the one message that slips through, many AOL/Yahoo/Hotmail users are still ignorant enough that they might buy from the spam.
According to the article, it's even worse than that. The people with ultra-short call time averages - those who basically just hang up on people - are promoted. Repeatedly.
I think it's better to require anyone with a liquor license to have one of these devices available. I also think that most people, like you, wouldn't drive drunk if they knew their blood alcohol content. But, if they are forced to guess because no breathalizer is available, they may wrongly think that they are OK to drive.
If you want to be really strict, post a police officer or some other public servant at every restaurant and bar, and have them check people as they leave. But don't saddle cars with them. That would be really unfair to people.
Spammers wouldn't pay anyway. They'd just pretend to be their own ISP (like some do even today) and, whatever the payment method is, they will spoof the part that says, "this sender payed for this email."
To prevent this, you'd have to verify payments for each email with a bank or perhaps some sort of Internet Post Office to issue, validate and cancel the "stamps." I highly doubt such an organization will be created.
The structure of American capitalism is such that the CEO of an enterprise is legally obligated to maximize shareholder value.
Is stock price in dollars the prescribed measure of "shareholder value"? Does the law provide for measures of company reputation, etc. as components of shareholder value?
"Windows" is a generic term that cannot be trademarked.
Microsoft only has a trademark on "Microsoft Windows."
Thus, I must conclude that it's perfectly acceptable for anyone to use the term "Windows." By extension, if "Windows" itself is OK, then something that is similar is also OK (i.e. "Lindows" or "Lindows Windows").
What wouldn't be OK is something like, "Microsoft Lindows" or "Microsoft Windowsish OS" or "Lindows Microsoft Windows".
Side note: It occurs to me that "Linux" has been trademarked by Linus. I think he has more (not much more) of a case against the Lindows company than Microsoft does.
That's very reasonable. But, is it really possible to hold a phone conversation using the same subdued voice you would use in a museum? With my cell phone, at least, I find that people have a hard time hearing me.

That actually makes me feel better in a way. I may be getting spam, but at least I'm not falling for it!

I thought WINS was outdated. Am I wrong? (Assuming a domain master and not an ad-hoc Win9x network.)
I'd rather get spam than pay Microsoft for email (indirectly, it seems, through patent licensing).

The spam I get, if it has a remove link at all, says something like "no more plz". So your filter wouldn't work on this.

On the off chance you are having a similar problem, here's a link to the problem description and solutions.
WordPerfect shows you so much more. See for yourself.

We probably also have more "entrepreneurs" (spammers and their customers) who are trying to get rich quick. That is, after all, the American Dream.

Also, I just read yesterday that companies have to report anything paid over $10 on a 1099 (not $600). But, maybe that's just for interest income.
