Axe the only UK AppleExpo in favour of *another* US show.
Axe all international OS variations in favour of one (US) version.
Start using the consumer to beta test it's hardware ~ anyone got a Cube? What a peice of shit! Out of the ten I got, 2 were DOA (one had a dead DVD drive, the other had the sleep/restart/shut down problem) another two have got a VGA problem where the only resolution you can select is 640x480! Nice!
What gives Jobs? I forsee the Cube as being one of Apple's biggest farces yet.....watch this space!
I predict eventually we'll bring back all the extinct species from the past, you know, the Dodo, Sabre-Toothed Tiger, Dinosaurs, Ronald Reagan, etc. Then they'll reproduce at an uncontrolable rate, the world will be overrun by carniverous beasts whose staple diet will be humans and we'll all die horribly.

I have nothing against Corel Linux, that's not my point. The point is this guy claims he is a Linux "guru" after only recently starting to use Corel Linux.

This is just another comment specifically designed to provoke flames. Hit them where it hurts, call them long-haired, rabid, fanatical commies.
My post wasn't a rant, it was just meant as a joke-flame, after all, thats the reaction Mr Hayes was after.

some of the rabid fanaticism that I see here just strikes me as childish. Oooh, the bare-faced cheek, the audacity. Oooh!
I wondered when AltaVista were gonna own up to that one. They actually had the cheek to send me a mail promoting this service today. Here are some quotes:
"Since AltaVista made its ground-breaking announcement of its intention to
launch an unmetered internet access package on 6th March 2000, the
entireUKaccess market has transformed dramatically."
Umm...bullshit!
"AltaVista Unlimited Internet Access launched on 30 June, 2000, and is
currently being rolled out to our list of preregistered customers. So as to
ensure the quality of this service, AltaVista has elected to rollout this
service in a controlled manner."
Infact, it was so tightly controlled that it didn't actually get rolled out, period!
Thanks to the fat monopoly that is BT, we in the UK are way behind the US in terms of broadband internet access. The UK's Telco governing body (OFTEL) have set a deadline for BT to lose their monopoly on the local loop at the end of this year, after which the price of non-NAT ADSL installation/usage will hopefully become comparable to the US. I for one will be waiting until then before I get my ADSL.
IMO it's all down to playability. Some of the old-skool games have amazing longevity because of their great playability and adictiveness - this is what has inspired the MAME type emulators. But on the other hand, some of them were complete crap. This can also be said for the processor-hungry games of today.
No gaming genre is ever really going to die, as long as game developers come up with good, adictive games.
For someone who regularly forgets to put his washing in this could be great news! I forsee remote clothing administration! Soon I will be able to assign my clothes IP addresses and wash them remotely, then get them to hang themselves out to dry.
Why are so many people seemingly obsessed with having the biggest/most fans in their boxen?
I've noticed this mentality before on/. in one of the polls. Most people seemed to be blatantly showing off about how inefficient their machines were "I have 30 fans in my box, and I'm getting 10 more tomorrow!"
I know Intel's processors, for example, run a little on the hot side - but surely you'll get to a point when adding another fan is a complete waste of money/space/energy.
For me, boxes that are more efficient, that need less fans, use less power, make less noise, are far more appealing.
Ahem....you forgot....

Yeah, you just change the date on your computer and it'll work again...
--------------------------------------------
IMO Apple are more concerned that people may actually carry on using this beta after OSX goes GM.
For those who don't want to fork out their hard-earned cash for a beta, I'm sure you'll be able to d/l it free from numerous Hotline servers.

Requires 1.5G of disk
Do some people still have hd's smaller than this?
I threw a couple of 1 gig drives away the other week 'cos they were too small!
--------------------------------------------
Anyone can port it if they want, the kernal is open source.
--------------------------------------------
The first *public* beta, actually.
--------------------------------------------
....know _for_sure_ if the public beta will be downloadable after Wednesday?
--------------------------------------------
It will be our own downfall!

I've seen it all in a dream.

You're right, I haven't tried KDE2.0 yet.
;P
I will try it at my earliest opportunity!
If I prefer it to Gnome, I'll use it!
Ummm....moderator....you been on that 3$ crack again. Why is the parent to this Flamebait?
If this is gonna turn into a poll, my vote goes to Gnome.
Reason? Because it looks better to me. It's totally down to personal opinion and you could argue the pros and cons of each until the cows come home.
