Because speed limits are retarded, have nothing to do with public safety, are never re-evaluated, the agents who enforce them have little accountability, and if everyone drove the speed limit we'd have MASSIVE knots in traffic.
You "just obey the speed law" types need to realize that about 1% of the population agrees with you and just move on. Or find an Apple thread to post the insightful "I don't like Apple products!#%" comment.
Tabbed applications are a crutch for those who use broken window managers. This task should not be handled (inevitably in functionally and cosmetically different ways) by applications.
Um, I think you've got it backwards. The advertisers are paying the bill for the content you're viewing.
Not that I have a moral issue with ad-blocking; quite the opposite. I just think it's silly that you're expecting to be reimbursed for your ad downloads. The CONTENT is the reimbursement.
yes. actually it's ludicrous to expect every person on the internet to know any one piece of information. especially something that's intentionally hidden from the user.
Yes. That's why both the subject and the summary mention Massachusetts. It's a state. You may have heard of it. It is part of the United States of America.
So don't pay it. My apartment tried to raise their rent by ~180/mo on me in May '09. I told them to piss up a rope. They instead lowered it by ~260/mo.
Just because they're telling you to pay more doesn't mean they aren't trying to screw you. Or, more likely, trying to screw you in order to make up what they're losing on the smarter tenants who are all paying less.
I went back to college in 2002-2006 (incidentally buying my first Mac in 2002 after 7 years of exclusive desktop Linux use, and I hate that I have to even throw in this disclaimer) and over that period for the first time noticed Macs being considered 'cool.'
Yet you give your trendy straw men (and women) too little credit. Just because they're not geeks and don't know much about computers, even if they bought a Mac because all of their friends said it was the cool thing to do, they can damn well tell you a lot of things they don't like about Windows. Ask them. I've heard it. These are the very technophobes who let their systems get overrun with spyware and adware, who got viruses while everyone on Slashdot bragged about the number of years they spent in their mom's basement *not* getting viruses (*cough*) while using XP sans AV software.
So if they're using a Mac, and it works for them, doesn't it mean their choice was justified?
I hate to think of what you think of all of the engineers using Macs.
For all of the politics around it, I love my iPhone. I have jailbroken previous iPhones and enjoyed the benefits, but my current one is operating as Apple designed it because I didn't gain enough from jailbreaking to make it worth the effort.
I'm happy with the apps I have, I'm happy with the 3G and regular phone service, I'm happy with the UI, Google Maps integration, iPod, call history and phonebook, don't need multitasking.. I just use it, and it just works, better than any phone I've had before-- including an unholy Motorola/Microsoft abomination. Out of so many millions sold, funny to think that I'm the only one.
Sure, I guess I wish it could multitask or do those other things I don't really need. I wish it was more open. But I'm happy with it. Maybe my next phone will be something else.. or maybe the competition will make Apple improve too.
Given the pretty extensive functionality and plumbing of ZFS its probably been too much of a big ask to integrate a filesystem like that into a desktop. They might well have come to the conclusion that ZFS was simply complete overkill on a desktop and that it just wasn't possible.
Why say in 4 words what can be said, while nounning a verb, in 6?
From a UI perspective, the guy is dead on. Windows has no mode where a userland app runs sans window. The system tray/quicklaunch/task bar/start menu/desktop setup is a clusterfuck of a nightmare in Windows, from a usability perspective.
So do what everyone else does with cars/computers/etc. Buy the aftermarket parts, install them yourself, then if you have a problem, swap in the originals if you're worried.
If the problem is still there, it must be something else. If the problem goes away, it was probably the shit parts you bought.
Except for the iMacs, where you see the computer too. Oh yeah, and the MacBooks and MacBook Pros, where the computer is sitting right there for you to see also.
Don't forget the Mac Pros, which are also sitting right on top of the counter.
Wait, which systems were you looking at when you created your straw man? I forget.
Not really, cyclists hate everybody else because they tend to be self righteous pricks. Drivers hate cyclists because they're self righteous pricks that don't obey the traffic laws. Never noticed Drivers or motorcyclists hating each other. Pedestrians hate all the rest of them because of the lack of respect and danger that the others represent.
Actually, as it turns out, you're the self-righteous prick. You clearly have little or no experience on a motorcycle or bicycle. The only reason you have any awareness of anything but your car is because you are occasionally forced to walk places.
As a pedestrian, cyclist, motorcyclist and driver, I hate drivers more than I hate anyone else. They're the lowest common denominator -- pretty much everyone drives more than they do anything else, and because it's the safest mode of personal transport, they're completely oblivious to everything around them. When I'm driving I hate most other drivers because they're selfish, don't pay attention, and generally drive terribly. This is only amplified when you're on a bicycle, motorcycle, or on foot, where the terrible drivers pose great potential harm to your body.
In addition, drivers generally are so self-important that they can't be bothered to understand why things are different for other road users. Even in places like CA where lane splitting is (somewhat) legal, some drivers try to block motorcycles from going by, just because they're pissed that their Escalade cannot, for some reason, fit into small spaces.
I drive far more often than I travel by any other mode of transport, so I am proof that it is possible to pull your head out of your ass and look around at the rest of the people you impact.
I actually just reduced from my 900min/month plan to 450min/month when I broke 7000 rollover minutes. So the minimal plan is less than 700, and you can go over 4k rollover minutes easily.
Because speed limits are retarded, have nothing to do with public safety, are never re-evaluated, the agents who enforce them have little accountability, and if everyone drove the speed limit we'd have MASSIVE knots in traffic.

"Early 1990s," huh? IE wasn't even *released* until 1995.
Browser wars were more 97 on.
"The Road Ahead" (November 1995) was Bill Gates figuring out that this whole Internet thing might catch on.
Safari + ClickToFlash = done.

... except the 3G model will have a plastic patch for the cell radio.
Apply this same logic to sites that work in IE but not Firefox.
I hope you're shorting Apple stock, because otherwise you look like a total moron for having such a vested interest in a product failing.

I run Click2Flash. The *only* useful implementation of Flash I ever see is for videos. So, go to Youtube, click on video, it works.
All the other Flash I run across in my daily browsing is screaming obnoxious ads.
Oh, and maybe a weird flash photo gallery on a newspaper site once a month.
Yes, it is a slight drawback that the iPad does not do Flash. Very slight.
"Fancy graphic designers?" 1995 called, they want their stereotype back.
The first iPods did virtually everything I do with my iPod today: Sync MP3s from iTunes and play them thru my headphones.
Sure, now I use my 3GS at the gym since someone stole my nano. But frankly, the classic iPod interface is better than the touch interface anyway.
My problem is when these fools try and convince me they are not fools or worse yet try and convince non foolish people to follow their foolishness.
My problem is when fools try to convince me I'm foolish! Can't they see what fools they are?

"Apple sucks" and "Apple worse than Microsoft" = guaranteed mod points.
So how is Apple worse than Microsoft exactly?
I think we're only hearing this from people who weren't alive during the 90s.
