I really don't like this development. Web apps tend to be really buggy and never really work as required. Either the feel is slow, you accidentally click somewhere or do something that loses all your work and most of the just doesn't feel as good as desktop app. I can't see anyone serious moving from Microsoft Office to Google's web-based offerings. Imagine if you had to do all your real development and coding within some web application. The same goes for games. I rather play real good games than some Farmville shit. I know I don't need to use them, but things like this affect everyone on larger scale. Google is destroying computers.
To me it looks more like a proxy site. It doesn't really say anywhere it's a botnet. I guess you could install TOR end nodes on botnet too, does that make TOR illegal?
No, but I do remember the days when people could host their own dedicated servers with their own rules and admins instead of that one-player-hosts bullshit. I also remember the days when game developers wanted people to make great mods for their games. Now that has mostly gone away. I'm glad there's still games like Red Orchestra 2 that have that old spirit. But where do you think it goes if the games are fully ran and only streamed to your computer?
While a kind offer, I have to say no thanks. This kind of service goes against all my beliefs and every rule for Linux and open source. Not only you don't get source code with the game, you don't even get binaries and data! Once you stop paying, you stop playing. If we support development like this there will soon be nothing else. There are many great open source games for Linux, like Battle for Wesnoth, Freeciv and Nethack. Even ID open sources their engines so that people can create many new awesome games. Once OnLine and companies start doing that, don't include abusive DRM and provides source with the game boxes, we can start talking. Until that I rather support indie developers.
What the mafiAA (and most other businesses) fail to grasp is that the majority of people in other countries simply cannot afford to pay $10-15 for a movie ticket when the average income is $3,000 a year, so of course piracy is going to be prevalent in a lot of countries!
They're aren't paying $10-15 per movie ticket. For example Thailand, where the average income per year is $3,000-4,000, movie ticket costs about $2. Or if you want your own big sofa in the theater, $4. Other prices are similarly scaled down.

Not that I would know how it is after you marry, but where I've been women are working hard too. Maybe the whole deal isn't as rosy, but for a single guy it's much more awesome place to be. Surprise surprise, EU countries are sovereign. They have their own laws. In some countries you find streets full of prostitutes, in some it's kind of illegal but there's no punishment (as long as the prostitutes are working themselves and nobody is pimping them) and in some countries it's outright illegal to buy or sell sex. Most men get around these laws by buying gifts or taking women to restaurant, but it's basically the same thing.
At least Facebook only requires you to provide valid verified phone number or credit card. If someone reports you for fake name on Google they ask you to send them scan of your passport or ID card. Via internet. Anyone can guess which is just so much more insecure.
It shows that the "omg free stuff" marketing works to people. People also go crazy about coupons and all kinds of "give us permission to spa.. mail you and get these cool things" offers and everything else. Even many slashdotters go to great lengths to defense Google just because their stuff is free (and you don't need to use it if you don't want to!!). At the same time they're ranting how government and companies are violating their privacy, when they're themselves whoring it out.
Several addons like FoxLingo makes that quite easily, actually. With Chrome and Opera you can even translate the whole page, tho I don't know how that works if there's several languages mixed.
Asia is in general much nicer looking than western world. They put a lot of thought on how things look, even to the finest detail, and have done so for centuries. This is visible in the old temples and buildings, but also in modern view - like Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. As someone who likes to travel and live there I can say it's much nicer than being around the concrete blocks western world has. We have really let ourselves go and forget what's nice in life, and just have shit like wal-marts.
It's not about if you two can communicate with each other. Of course you can. But if the other ones friend list mainly contains people speaking in his native language, then he is going to use that to post. Then people who speak other language, like you, can use the translate feature to translate the text. I have many friends who have their own native language, I have my own, and we communicate in English.
You don't interact much with people outside your immediate area, do you? I have many friends from other countries. And yes, real friends that I talk more with than some of the friends where I live. I don't see them as often, there being all that distance, but this is internet age. If you have common interests with people there's nothing in the way to become friends with people from other countries.
This is even true for Europe, where the distances aren't that large, but almost all countries have their own language. And if you are like me and happen to travel a lot and live around the world, even more true, including friends who also live in Thailand (and thai gf and her friends) who also tend to speak lots of different language natively. You usually mostly use your native language on Facebook, but might friend people with different languages too.
Their new data center seems to aimed at hosting just music and movies, and isn't even ready yet. iPhone 5 is coming out in a month and they need something that works now. Apple's previous cloud services have miserable failed too, so it makes sense to use someone who is already expert in the field. Apple isn't going to be making money out of offering hosting services anyway, they even completely stripped down their server OS. Microsoft and Azure, on the other hand are, and they already have ready-to-go worldwide cloud hosting solution.
The reason why they're using two completely different kind of systems (Azure and AWS) probably is so that they don't get locked in to either one.
