The EU parliament has reverted the proposal to the secret meetings where the first version was created. At the moment there is therefore no EU rule to reject, and everybody can make up legislation for the highest bidder as usual.
They make some claims as to have "given back" to the linux community
Well, they were the first to port Linux to a serious parallel architecture. Still not many vendors that will support a 512-core and 1-kernel system...

Go For a Masters, Or Not?

I know a lot of people who don't work in the area which they studied for their masters. These time wasters are invariably more interesting and more capable than the people who already knew at 18 what they'd be doing the rest of their lives. Why do you presume your chosen profession even exists in 30 years?
Thanks for my favourite car analogy. Do we really allow everybody to take of in a 'commodity' car and cause uncontrolled damage? Or do we demand proof of a minimal level of control of the vehicle, and a good insurance if things go wrong?
I live in a country with extremely high fuel prices ($6.40/Gallon when I filled up this morning) and an extremely dense public transport net. I'm still $3900 (and 1900 travel hours) better off by not taking the train according to this calculator.
In my experience public transport is not an alternative for a car, it is an alternative for walking or cycling.
The problem is the slashdotters are in an unresolvable emotional deadlock. Do we cheer for destroying 100000 infested Windows installations, or do rage at the crapware producers who make this possible...
Yes really, I did a Minor in CS in 1988, and we had to write our own semaphore based threading code, on a bunch of 3b2's connected by 10base2.
I'm pretty sure that was plain textbook stuff (from the first chapter of Tanenbaum's Operating Systems), as you would fail the grade if you didn't get it to work.
Wow, I see, but that only works for interest, royalties and dividends.
I guess I'm going to have to move my software business to 'computer art licensing'...
No, the tax rate for holdings and companies is about the same as for other European countries; check out the figure. The only country that is not a 'tax haven' by this criterion is Japan.
Well, I snigger derisively at 'leverage'. The silent assumption always seems to be that risks are magically 'managed away' by obscuring the cumulative exposure in the credit chain.
You're the guy that thought up both the credit swaps and the bailout for Wallstreet right? Without specifying your 'goods and services paid' your 45$ is worth exactly 1$ + Vapour.
Yes, and probably with less effort if your {portdir} doesn't come with that one dependency you happen to need according to your comment a few levels up.

Which country has incarcerated the largest fraction of its population?
How do you mean revert back?

Sarkozy is definitely no socialist, he was more like a soul-mate of Bush and Blair in many respects.
No, it cost their customers money, it cost thousands of their employees their jobs, but it didn't cost the people who really matter any money.
You never know what comes out of these projects. I vaguely remember this guy from CERN in 1990 playing with two computers.
If you cause damage with your unfixed car you pay.
If you cause damage with your unfixed computer I pay.
I think there's a difference.
So there's hope for me then.
Or do I need to meet all four criteria?

Try explaining that to Joe Sixpack
What does it tell when educating the average person becomes a metaphor for an impossible task?

As another developer I have to ask: Where did you learn to program? Because this is standard part of any curriculum I know of since the early 1980's.

What are they talking about?
We pay over 30% corporate tax. and compulsory health insurance for our personnel.

You have no clue what median means, do you?
Still nice trolling.
