I had this yesterday morning when on the way home from work (nightshift), i was in the right lane (fast lane here in.au, we drive on the left), left and right lanes plodding along at a leasurely 70km/h (35/40mph-ish) with no lane faster than the other, i kept a reasonable buffer in front of me as i was going home from 12 hrs of work overnight and i was shatterdly tired and didn't want to cause an accident. Meanwhile mr dickwad in his 4x4 ute decided that i wasnt going fast enough and hung off my bumper, i didn't notice him for a little bit, but when i did, i immediately adopted the attitude of "fuck you, im not gonna tailgate for your stupidity, nor am i gonna let you pass yet, the left lane is bumper to bumper, nowhere to change lanes into".
Anyhow i gave this guy about 4-5km's of not moving over and driving entirely reasonably. i got flashing lights, honking horns. Eventually i got sick of his arseheaded behaviour and decided i didn't need a bullbar up the clanker and merged left. he proceeded to go and bully car after car after car. I shoulda got his rego details and reported a complaint to the coppers about this fuckwit, but i realised long afte he'd nicked off.
yeah, slight rant, slightly badly formatted. Who gives a shit.:-)
I find that a whole lot more believeable. 16oz equates to about 450grams. if it was 16 grams then it would be made like This at the heaviest!
I'm suprised that that typo hasn't been picked up, but i guess everyone here is either 1)american and knows only pounds ounces and miles 2)stunned at the "cool, star trek really can come true!!!!" factor.
I'll agree with you though on the commonness(sp), When i first saw the subject i thought "a couple hundred responses, most likely stupid shit responses to a genuine question."
I am honestly suprised and a little shocked at the response that includes "it happened to me too!" responses. Im kind of stuck between "wow" and "i had no idea that society had malignment issues of this proportion".
Good luck to the people with the problems, and their family.
And as a sig or three i have seen have said "I don't suffer from insanity, i enjoy every minute of it!"
Slightly screwed up, but still funny none the less. (the fact that i couldn't remember the surname either put the name stuffup into the "that doesn't sound quite right" as opposed to "bah, WRONG" category.
Good luck Deli-x, there's forgiving, and then there is giving-a-wide-berth due to it being a waste of your valuable time.
With all the skewed and arrogant views out there like this it leaves little wonder why society is such a malevolent place.
It's good to see someone has picked their jigsaw puzzle up and re-assembled it into a normal life, it makes for a change for the better to all the sad stories i hear out there. The latest one i heard of was one of my mates being stabbed by his wife, who had stopped taking her anti-depressive meds and went, well, nuts. There's a court case coming up soon and i suspect diminished responsibility and so forth will have her walk outta there. But he's divorcing her anyhow, and i dont blame him for it, she just refuses to take her medication.
Anyway, i digress. Glad to hear that you've fought your demons and won, congrats on being a dad too:-)
why is this moderated offtopic? they were talking about car fee's, this guy mentioned *another* one in addition to the admin fee's, etc. that get slapped onto the cost of a car.
Oh heck, my original rationing was correct. That was for the OEM releases. However for the "full boxed" software, i got the following prices from "Harvey Norman" which are the bastard son equivalent of Fry's & Walmart over here in Australia. Cut & pasted from their website.
microsoft ms windows xp home edition $459.95 microsoft ms windows xp home edition upg $239.95 microsoft ms windows xp professional A$669.96 microsoft ms windows xp professional upg $459.95
So in some way i was right about the prices spiraling up (at least for general consumer releases of software, hell it cost $190 for NT4 Workstation back in the day!!
I just did a cost check on a local computer store's website and i found Win 2K pro at $231AUD by itself. Then there is XP home at $149AUD and XP Pro at $225 AUD, both when buying OEM Hardware!!!

Even taking the inflation costs into account, haven't the costs of windows ballooned disproportionately since the days of windows 95?
I mean Win98 was a bit of a hike, WinME (i never even walked past it in a shop, i'd take a detour) presumably shot way up in cost. Then they extolled the virtues of Windows 2000 (which i admit was the best they've released thus far) as the start of the merger of consumer OS and Business OS.
And now they are wallet raping everyone with XP. LaserLyte may well be right about the costs going even further up into the stratisphere. No matter what people say though, i just find it a bit difficult to get my head around paying so much frickin money for something as intangible as software.
I'm sure that if they lowered the cost of the software somewhat, then they'd be able to cash in on the people that originally thought their software too expensive (and thusly found a mate with a cracked cd of Latest-funky-jive (TM) operating system.
Sure as shit on a stick they'd have my attention and i'd consider buying Microsoft Software if they made it more stable and cheaper. And that's saying something!
I'll do tech support for the girlfriend, dad and mum, and one particular friend. Then there is one particular other friend who knows a bit about computers and when wants something done sends me a sms along the lines of "i have a job for you to network" at stupid hours of the night.
My usual reply is "you know how to do it, do it your frickin self". For this person i refuse to help him through problems that he inherently causes himself by simply not leaving well enough alone.
Ok, so you've got me there. Your right, i can't handle just any idiot on a motorbike, sometimes i just cringe, like when i see a 150km/h mono in nothing but shorts, thongs and a lid *cringe*.
Aside from the fact they'd leave my bike for the dust, esp on corners, some probs with having a f*kin cruiser... (unless it's a hirebus im up against, in which case i stand a chance-ish);-).
Ok, so yeah it's a pushybike, and it's a buncha s(crap), but still it's a bike 'eh?
I've got an old partly rusted out pushbike from the 80's you can't even get any rims or freaking TYRES for anymore sitting in the corner of my garage. I've not the heart to toss it and buy a new one as my dad gave the POS to me.
Motorbikes however, it's chop'n'change week over here in Oz.:-).
"I guess ambiguities like that are what you end up with when you write a several hundred page law in a few days, as the Patriot act was written."
I always imagined that the Patriot act was sitting on someones desk gathering dust waiting for an event like this so they could crack it out and morally ass fuck the lot of you.

why would we be asking cisco to make switches that probes each packet looking for c-!@l1$ anyhow?
The onus isn't on the likes of Nortel Networks or C.isco. They provide devices that network support can use to design and impliment the infrastructure of an ISP/Network. They are not responsible for ensuring that there isn't unwanted data on the network, that is the sole responsibility of the person/people running the network.
The problem is far far bigger than that. routers already have rules built into them. you can drop packets based on source-destination-protocol or whatever you please. Thusly you can decide as a nework administrator to drop all packets coming on port 25 from clients that are *NOT* directed to the internal mail server, or provide exceptions on a per-requirement, etc, blah blah blah..
Before you go blaming someone, make sure you have your facts correct, okay?
there's playing with your spouse, then there's playing WITH your spouse. I find the latter much more redeeming. ;-)
Another good site is www.bikemovies.com :-).
ok there are some stupid things being done on turbo'd bikes, but still there are fast-forwarded trips through rural areas as well as other places.
Me, i've got a camcorder, unfortunately it's a cruiser so is too nose-high to do this.
Cool, i live 4km from an airport in a unit, on a high hill. i *never* thought of doing this, thats *way cool*.
Now i wanna do it damnit!!!
I'm sure it'll get a big bunch of "wtf?" from the missus however.
I thought that was Australia, no?

I'm sure Xerox PARC pre-dates all of this by a couple of years.

I had them a hour ago, but i blew them in another thread alltogether. But then again if i used them here, i couldn't make comments in response.
b.t.w. the grandparent poster fergot the important point of:
"but which glass had the poison?"
"they both did."
Relax, it was still pretty funny :-)
