  1. Question as to interface for games... on Playstation on Linux UPDATED · · Score: 1

    How is the program going to read the games? I would guess that you could just stick the playstation games into your cdrom drive and it would read it that way but that sounds way to easy. I couldn't find anything about it on the webpage. I was also wondering if you would be able to somehow copy the cd's onto your hard disk even though that would probably take up alot of space.

    I went to the 1998 Atlanta Linux Showcase and Miguel (The most hyperperson on earth.) Was teaching a class about GNU GROPE. It was suppose to be a optimizer for code similar to the SGI rope. I'm not a programmer so I don't understand exactly what it does but Miguel said that using GROPE could lead to a 40 precent memory reduction under gcc. Has any one heard about this? If so what ever happend to it.

    I decided to throw this in after all the other talks on optimization and compilation.

    Personally I don't think that these people sould be let off or anything but I don't think they sould be killed. Damn if you start killing crackers, where does it stop? I sure as hell don't think that I sould be shot just because I smoke mirijuana. I'm sure that when these people are caught the prosecuting authorities will throw the book at these people, and make a example out of them. But kill them?

    I don't really thing this could be called terrorism either. Go look up the defenition and I think that you'll agree with me it's not. Usally terroism involves hurting/killing/maming innocent bystandards in order to get a Political View across to some organization that the people might be involved in. This is just a case of theft.

    I sould know. I was in Tampa Florida when I was 7 and my mom was trying to light sparklers with matchs. Well it didn't work so we asked a man to use his lighther. I had 1 sparkler in my right hand and 16 in my left. I got the 1 sparkler and tried to light 1 in the other hand. Well all 16 went off and I got a 2nd and 3rd degree burn.

    But hey once they all went off people where yelling and cheering thinking that it was just 1 kick ass fire work.

    On one new years eve me and a friend made batch files that used the more, and some command with 8,N,1:9600 and the lovely |. You could use a terminal program and one person could dial up the other person dos box and use it like you where teleneted in. It was fucked up!.

    Another time I broke my monitor and I type pipe | prn:lp01 and it piped everything from my screen
    and printed it out on paper.

    I'm sure this is going to be one of the many post that say the say thing. However maybe by reading these all some one from Corel will get the point. I started using dos when I was 9. I pretty much had it masterd at the age of 12. I started with debian Linux my freshman year in high school at the age of 14. I'm now using Slackware and I'm 17.
    I can't beleive that a company would do somthing like this, I would think that they would have taken into account what a precentage of their market is under 18.

    Does any one Know where I can get the libMesaVoodooGL version that came with the old quake3 test? I don't want to have to download the whole thing just for that one file.

    Just another example of a microsoft peon. If you had ever seen a real journalizing file system you would know that NTFS is as far from journaled as you can get. A journaled file system dosen't take 10-30 minutes for a 2.3 gb drive to be checked. Microsoft just calls it journaled.

    You don't seem to grasp how quickly Linux Grew. It came from a 1 man operation to a better operating system that you can't beat the price/performance ratio. As Windows devolves and regresses, linux explode's with growth.

    As a recent example of this, a year ago Linux has no journalizing file systems. We now have 2 being devloped with one stable. Window NT dosen't even have 1 being devloped yet, although I'm not sure if Windows 2k is suppose to be a new file system.

    Yes Linux benefits of capitalism but Capitalism also benefits off Linux. Look at all the business that will soon be hitting the stock market that write Linux software, sell support or build machines specifically for Linux. Look at redhat's stock that tripled in the first opening day. Their ceo was worth over 580 Million in a day, yes it has gone down but Linux can make you rich too. Linux's popularty has exploded despite it not having a basterdly marketing department like some other software maker.

    If you worried about economics, you should want to get rid of monoplies.

    Well Duh! Right now almost no one grows hemp. So
    if you knew anything about econimics you would
    know it's way more expensive. Because the market
    demand right now is so low, business do not find
    any motive in R&D. So much time has been spent
    making oil refiners, drills, pumps and technology to find oil. No one grows hemp, so it is more
    expensive.

    Its like switching over to the Metric system. No
    one wants to do it because of the capital required
    up front. Although in the long run using the metric system would be alot cheaper.

    Another example of this is using Silver wiring. Silver is more expensive up front but in the long run i.e. 50 years it will save money.

    Get the picture?

    If the American Public wasn't persauded by
    the media to beleive that hemp is bad, we could
    use hemp oil which burns much cleaner and more
    efficent then Fossil Fuels. Not to mention that
    hemp is much eaiser to renew then oil.

    Thats just my opinon anyway. Any one care to agree
    or disagree?

    every one that I know of in real life hasn't registerd it either. Like some one said their are
    normally only 10 percent of the people that
    own a product actually register it. I don't think
    I have registerd for anything.

  25. Simple question.... on Slackware 7 Beta Out · · Score: 1

    I first installed slackware with the release that came with the kernel 2.0.29 I can't rember what
    version. About a year later I bought 3.5 and I downloaded 4.0 last may.

    I just found it easier to update slackware all at once then have to do each little seperate library, binary etc by itself it was just getting to time
    consuming for me.
