Let me first mention I'm a CCIE, so somewhat biased. I call TAC for one reason or another a couple of times per week - Generally, I can talk to an engineer on average in 15 minutes. Of course, the problem you have will make the wait time vary greatly - If it's a simple hardware RMA, it may be 1-2 min. IBM problems, 5-6 min. Common troubles with route protocols may take longer, depending on the size of your network and what priority you can get (Priority 1, big network, will get attention quickly)

This does raise the question, tho - should cord blood be saved as a matter of course? When our kiddo was born, we opted to save the cord blood, just in case, despite him being perfectly healthy.

Are there no other television networks in the world giving olympic coverage? Seems to me anyone with a press pass and a camcorder should be able to put up streaming content, NBC and the IOC can scream all they like, but it shouldn't matter.

The sad part about all this is some sports, like fencing, get no coverage in the U.S. I wouldn't care if it was televised at 3AM - I would set the VCR! Internet-delivered video seems to be the only hope I have of getting ANY coverage of fencing at all, and NBC/IOC is trying to limit that? Sounds very short-sighted - the more coverage is available, the more people will watch, and want more. Granting exclusive rights to NBC is one thing, if they would provide complete coverage, but I know they won't.

To support all of this I2, transfer the Encyclopedia in 15 seconds stuff, the ISPs must increase their uplink speeds - something they have been reluctant to do (as in the recent story about Cable speeds...). These increases are going to need to be almost exponential, too - since we all have that "need for speed"...

Also, all of this seems nice, but do I really want to turn my living room into a CAVE? (Granted, I would like to play UT in one...) Seems like some of the I2 is going to be limited big-business and collegiate research, even if just from a cost / space standpoint.

Something doesn't add up here - One company in this article mentioned that Sun helped them rearrange their data center to get the boxes cooler, then they stopped having problems. The other company essentially said that Sun hadn't helped at all, and had not forwarded any information.

Why would Sun not tell customers to keep the machines cooler until a fix could be found? Really, how many bigish Sun machines are running in uncontrolled climates? I would think turning down the thermostat a few degrees wouldn't be a big deal compared to "frequent" crashes.

Also, why would a customer sign an NDA with a vendor? Support levels should be stated in the support contract; any less and the lawyers get involved. This sounds like a device to prevent distribution of news, protecting stock price and corporate image. I always thought that should be done in testing/QA.
