He's not really in free fall, it's in a glide with a wing that provides some lift and direction. Hardly seems "unaided" and in fact, his own statement above states that he's "aided" by the wing.
talk to Verizon, AT&T, etc. and work out a deal with them where you/they provide such cell phone services. They get good advertising... you get cheap phones....
If you're looking to get sound, then MB sound is just fine. I use it for filler/background noise all the time and love it.
If you're looking for music, they still have miles and miles to go before they will compete. Check out products by Lynx,M-Audio,,RME and Digital Audio Labs
Also check out this thread in a forum for a list of just some of the cards that are worth looking at. HiFi Sound Cards
And don't be fooled by statistics and numbers, even the best DAC in the world can get messed up by some 2bit clown laying it down with the wrong analog circuitry to support it.
I'm not saying that the people who lay out all these cards are 2bit clowns, just that people look at the numbers and don't use their ears all too often.
The most important thing is do you like the sound that comes out of the system. If yes, then who cares what else is out there. Be happy with it.
p.s. I don't work for Slimp3, just love using them. You could use just about any network device, I just like the slimp3 because of it's size and simple use. Plus the ability to sync multiple devices to gether and control them all through the web if you'd like.
There are also some systems that work with WiFi, so you don't even need to run wires.
I don't have the link, but I have seen stand alone CD-Burners that will burn the contents of a memory card onto a CD. He could just get a 512MB card, take pics... burn onto a CD and send home.
Also, what about USB-on-the-Go ? Isn't it supposed to allow cameras to talk to hard drives? I've found some hard drives that are USB on the go. Do any cameras support this?
Wait... when MS doesn't have unfair control over a market, the better product wins out?
Too bad the goverment isn't going far enough to make them allow fair competition in the Windows market place.
I don't want MS to be taken apart. Just that other companies need to have equal access to the underlying OS and protocols so that they can make products that compete.
I think that it was a typo in the article. From their concolusion:
The real choice, though, is Apple's. We suspect it will choose a multi-vendor approach, utilising chips from IBM and Motorola by matching processor characteristics to application: G4 for mobile machines and consumer desktops, 970 for pro desktops and servers.
Does anyone know whether this will be bi-directional? i.e. Can I use bookmarks on one machine... and on another and add to each of them in between syncs? That would be awesome!
By the way, is there any easy way to do this with Mozilla? Especially, with mozilla on different OSs?
I personally use Tiny Persona Firewall. It doesn't have tons of features but it does the job. Every time a program tries to access the internet, I'm given the option to block or allow and can set up rules accordingly. So when adware tries to get out and report home, I block it's network connection. (Ver. 2 is free)
In addition, it is nice because I can stop Outlook Express from accessing images from HTML docs, and may programs with built in images for ads can have their ads blocked as well.
There are other such programs, I just don't know much about them.
For times when I want really excellent sound, I have a second hifi which tends to get plugged into a soundblaster live - but for the majority of the time, soundblaster sound from the laptop suffices.
Just wish that they would have fixed this problem. I have had two of the G3 models, and both have had their rubber feet fall off. I imagine that it's because they have some adhesive that gets much less adhesive at the temps that the system is running at. It seems like they need to find an adhesive that performs better.
I'd get either the 15" pBook from Apple or an IBM T30 (particularly with the 1400x1050 display) from IBM. You might even be able to get it cheap from ThinkPad Depot. They frequently have good deals.
The one piece of advice that I would have for anyone getting a laptop is to MAKE SURE YOU GET 3 YEARS OF COVERAGE!!!
Laptops take a beating, and parts go bad. You can't easily (and cheaply) pop old parts out and new parts in, so get the extra warranty!
Why not get SliMP3. These are fantasic little devices that work extremely well for MP3 streaming. My friend has two in his house and I'm planning on getting a few myself. Just run cat5 around the house and get music from anywhere... they even have a nice LCD display.
So does this give xtra the rights to take all names and email addresses of people sent messages and use them for advertising and sell them to others?
sublicence to any third parties the unrestricted right to exercise any of the rights granted
I hope that enough people write that this gets changed! I could see them harvesting every email address that goes through their smtp servers and pop servers and then selling that data.
I would like to agree with many comments that have been posted here.
I only buy them for laptops. I find that laptops often have a harder life than other devices (more bumps and vibrations) and hinges and such wear out. My plans for Apple, IBM and Dell laptops have more than paid for their costs.
For just about anything else, it's usually not worth it.
I think that it's time for a new WinAMP Plug-in that changes the Hash number to a random value every time it's played.

Still, it looks very very cool.
But you don't have to get it right away, you can get it w/i the first year.
I've had 3 pBooks, and had problems with all of them... all fixed under apple care.
Just to be fair, I've had a Dell and IBM that have problems too.
All laptops get more physical abuse than desktops and should have at least a three year warranty.

Hey,
Why run analog signals which will get noise? Get a Slimp3. Run ethernet all over your house, and be all set.
Plus, think about how you are going to control the one computer from each room. A Slimp3 has a remote.

WoW!!! 6800MB over dialup... and 650 hours. That's 27 DAYS!!! Your computer was connected 90% of the time. Did you ever make phone calls?

Can you say population control?!?
heck, if they time it right, they can do spring cleaning too...
Doesn't the mobil speed pass already do this? nothing really all that new.
Do you really need to store the pdf files all the time? or could you just generate them when you need them? That could save you a lot of space.
Will the M-Audio Board pass through AC3?

Yeah, and when you want music instead of just "sound" get something like the Digital Audio Labs card (http://www.digitalaudio.com/) or one of M Audios board (http://www.midiman.net/products/consumer/index.ph p)
I completely agree. It's the equivalent of saying BMWs and Escorts are the same... and BMWs are bad because they cost more!
They aren't the same, sit in both of them and you instantly see/feel the difference.
Take them out on the road and drive them and there's no going back.

Everyone should go onto their site and fill out the survey and say that Ogg support is important... let them know that we want it!

Ha!
By their logic, people would have used 421 burners to copy 350 CDs. That's less than 1 CD per burner.
1) Some burners are faster than others and thus count as multiple burners. (156 burners == 421 burners)
2) For every good track, there are probably 100 bad tracks, so 35,000 CD-Rs is really the equivalent of 350 CDs.
