If you're just lending books out of your library, then a number of the solutions mentioned above may work well. If you're also (thinking about) lending tools or other goods from your lending library, then you might want to check out Local Tools. It's a web-based lending library management system.
According to the features page, it will calculate due dates, late fees, send out email reminders, track donations, and more.
So far all the exhibits are produced by and funded by pesonal donations (the main one from Dr. Daniel Koshland). Hopefully the endowment will continue and donations will keep furture exhibits corporate sponsorship free.
If you don't like the tactics of Amazon, there are alternatives. One of the best is BookSense.com. Not only do they offer an affiliate/partner program, you'll also be supporting independent bookstores (rather than the chains or Amazon):
I think that we have determined that many of us have gone through similar torment and hurtful teasing that the kids in Littleton went through.
What I personally fear more than that the torment of "geeks" will continue is schools and society will make it nearly impossibel to interact with others without fear of words being taken as harassment or torment.
Most of us who had to suffer at the hands of bullies, and the "popular" crowd did not go and blow 12, or even 1 person away. We learned to deal with. I think the most succesful of us who dealt with it had good support from our families.
With the ever declining strength of the family unit, and lack of almost anyone in the US taking responsibility for their own actions, kids have no place to turn for support and positive reinforcement.
I think these are the issues that need to be addressed, not the teasing that goes on, has gone and on, and probably will go on for years to come. Freedom of expression has a price, and I'd rather pay that price, and help my children pay that price, than see those freedom's restricted.
The news release says September 1999. tht puts it at least 5-6 months ahead of the PSX2 release in the US. Again, tile will tell if Sony meets their projects or if they delay the release... so far PSX2 is vaporware, while Dreamcast units have been shipping since November...
The PSX2 will possibly be relasing in Japan by the end of the year. The Dreamcast has been in out Japan since the end of 1998.
Will developers really develop PSX2 games, or will they continue to develop PSX games? I think many will choose the latter, since the PSX2 is suposedly going to be backwards compatible - and developers will want thir games to run on the larger installed base. Time will tell...
While there are additional, or more accurately different, issues to be weary of when meeting Internet friends, its common-sense to take precautions when meeting anyone for the first time in "real life".
You should always meet people in a public place, and if possible bring a friend along. If the person you have gotten to know over the past days, weeks, months really does care about you and is your friend they will more than undersatnd these precauations.
If they are offended by your supposed lack of trust, then I'd say they are not worth your time anyway...
Time/money should be spent on better SERVICE.

Network Solutions makes a bundle of money on their monopoly. What I cannot understand is why they have not upgraded the SERVICES they offer.
A New look is great, but where are things like:
ability to lookup what domians are assoicated with a host or contact in real time
domain registraion in real-time via the web?
Making the payment system and email based change system more robust and reliable
I think our money should go to an upgrade in services first, not into a new UI to let them compete whenever they finally lose their monopoly.
