The protests of 1989 resulted in the killing of Chinese protestors in the streets to the west of the square and adjacent areas. Some sources (Graham Earnshaw and Columbia Journal Review) claim that none died on the square itself. However, Chinese expatriates who left the country after the killings said that the numbers ended up being in the thousands. This was a combination of the hundreds killed on the spot and the "miniature" purge that followed.
It looks like I'm going to be able to buy a Wii and a 360 for about the cost of a PS3. Seems like a lot more console for my $, considering that buys me into 2/3 of the platform exclusive titles. After all, it's all about the games. I like GTA as much as the next guy, but Halo3 and Zelda/Mario will help me get over it. Besides, I just have to wait 6 months for the Xbox 360 GTA version anyway.
The biggest problem with these things is no longer the cost of the hardware, but the cost of running this stuff. Why can't these things just go to sleep when they're idle and wake up when they're needed? I probably use my server 20 or 30 minutes a day, and the rest of the time it just costs me money. If it were a mac, maybe it would work, but it would cost an arm and a leg. Why is linux power management so touch and go?
Has anyone used solaris 10? ZFS is looking nice; I just wonder about the power management.
... I could use a custom CPU. Since I'm left-handed, I'd like something like an athlon64, but the leftshift instruction should shift right and the rightshift instruction should shift left. I'd be willing to pay an extra $50 for that!
I tried this out on a machine that shouldn't have botherered and I got about 5fps, but it did work. The idea works great for flight sims. Does MS Flight Sim in window mode support two displays?
I think the market is still way to small. Of course I love two monitors for games. I put the cheat codes on my rage 128 pci, and the game on my radeon 8500.
"It is no longer an issue of having a fancy GUI (KDE can't get much better), but rather the real problems lie in the foundation."
You're right. KDE is the perfect UI. There's no room for improvement. All the KDE developers should just quit. Not one thing could be more useful or simple or powerful. Nothing is more confusing or complicated than it should be. I could use KDE as it is forever and be happy.
Sorry about the not too bright comment. The original post just seemed to be "I worked hard for a degree and he didn't, therefore I hope he doesn't get a job." That offended me. I don't have a degree and I've worked my ass off to get where I am. In fact, I've worked about ten times as hard recently as I ever did in college.
This post (I assume the same author) makes more actual points. I know that personally, I'd never have gotten anywhere if I hadn't spent at least 2 years at school. Second, I will concede that a degree is a bit more than an introduction letter. A degree also shows drive and the ability to follow thru.;)
If I have two identical candidates for a job, of course I'd take the one with the degree. In the real world however, there's no such thing as an identical candidate.
I look for qualifications for the position in past job experience first. Vibe and attitude are also very important. Does this person *seem* sharp? Am I looking for an architect, a hacker, or a line soldier? The education background only matters to me if they're fresh out of school. I suppose I may be biased without a degree myself.
I don't have a degree. That was my point. Sorry about the "ei". I'm not a perfect speller. The "thru" was intentional. I love that word. It just feels efficient.
My parents happened to be paying my way thru school. Beleive me, I get along with them a lot better now that they can retire sooner.
Sounds to me like you're one of the folks who isn't all that bright, but got a degree based on hard work in order to get a job. Well, good for you. Everyone should make their own path. Still, wishing someone else mal chance in the job market is a petty thing.
Choice 1. Paying 30 grand per anum for a piece of paper. Choice 2. Making 80 grand in a job you love.
You know what a degree is? It's like a $100,000 letter of introduction, rather than proof you know anything. Sure I left school 2 years early. I was miserable in school, and I'm very happy now. I look at that as 2 years more of my life that I get to be happy.
IE for mac has had really nice fit-to-page printing for a while now. Since 4.5 I think. I'll make sure paragraphs and images don't get cut off and such.
Dunno why the PC version, which is so much faster with a better DOM, is like the worstest ever at printing.
You're AMD CPUs lying around probably wouldn't work in a dual setup anyway. You need Athlon MP cpu's to work.
My view on why this hasn't taken off is that a single Athlon 2200 with DDR333 ram and other slick hardware will be nearly as fast as a dual Athlon MP2100 with DDR266 ram and cost fantastically less. The board isn't even the biggest problem. The chips themselves cost way more than their single cpu bretheren.
We have dual systems at work because we're developing server software and need dual machines to test on, but for most users they're very hard to cost/justify. I miss the old PGA celeron 366 days, when you building a dual system actually saved money.
One thing AMD could do to fight the battle with Intel would be to make all their CPUs dual capable. It's not so much a matter of cost, they just don't want to massacre their server market margins.
The idea that a standardized environment helps the grader is a huge one. I would hate to grade projects submitted on just about any platform. But it's also important for the student. I like the feeling of knowing that if it works on my computer, it will work on my graders machine. You lose all of that with multiple enviroments.
Also, when I was in school I found that most of the porjects i was given could easily be ported. I developed most of my textual projects with Codewarrior, then ported them to UNIX to turn them in.
Yes, the correct (pinyin) spelling and the incorrect spelling give the same page, with the same, surprising paragraph.

Interesting... More than I expected to be avaliable...
GMA 950 integrated graphics isn't exactly going to "tear it up" in games.

Look out Pebbles Flintstone! You're dream man has arrived!
Do you not know what the letters are supposed to look like?

I Still think Wolf Blitzer has nothing on "Jacque Chirac". That's my favorite name ever.
I might have to name my kid "Woz".
I just figured out Pi to the googleplex digit in base 36 math! it's a "Y". Go ahead, prove me wrong!
