To this end, look for Microsoft's purchase of PayPal [paypal.com] or some "leading" micropayment shop (perhaps from x.25 land if not .com land) in the next couple quarters

I like it when Microsoft buys other companies, it allows them to spread their strengths over a wider array of people. Luckily they have been able to amass a grand sum of money so that they can afford to purchase virtually any enterprise known to man.

While many may fret over that sort of wide ranging control, I prefer the safety and security of knowing that I have ONE source to contact when I have a question or concern about one of the products or services I buy. I can only hope that Microsoft continues its current trend of extending their services so that I might one day live in the dream of an entirely MS based existence.

If I want a song by a specific artist, I have no choice on where to purchase it, how it will be packaged, or what useless crap will be bundled with it to pad the price
There you have it. The company selling the CD is charging whatever the market will bear. That is how it is supposed to work.

    This is not choice
Yes it is, no one forced you to buy the CD. You admit that you merely want the song.

If this is some backhanded way of saying that most music these days is so generic that it is interchangeble within a given genre
It certainly is interchangable but that isn't what I meant. There are dozens of labels out there, many of them aren't RIAA distributed. If you want cheap CDs they are out there to be bought.

Brits are notoriously straight laced and would never sing in public unless drunk (which most Brits usually are after about 4pm) or retarded (which many Brits are due to the leftovers from the bombings most of their cities received during World Wars I and II).

Slashdot had already become little more than a joke without it being upgraded to 2.2, now to add journals onto that is more insult than anything.

If it were still in its original form, sure... it'd be a great success, and tons of people would post. But with it's currently mangled useability? I can't see it happening.

You also ignore the fact that there are throngs following Dave Matthews Band, Phish, and Blue Traveller, just like there were throngs following the Dead. The throngs are smaller because they have split up between several bands, but thats good because it provides 3 opportunities to get good acid and nail wanna be hippie girls per summer. Previously there was only one.

No, I don't recommend listening to Destiny's Child on your ride home. You probably wouldn't notice the difference, what with your furious masturbation and such, but the image of an overweight, middle aged, bearded geek blasting their music from his mufflerless Chevette is just not appealing.

Lets take your pimp analogy a little futher shall we?

Take for instance a farmer, corn farmer. He needs a combine but all he has is a tractor. His neighbor, he needs a tractor because all he has is a combine. What they do is they join this thing called a co-op, pay a fee for being members, and the co-op allows them to share equipment. They pay for the service aspect. This seems similar to the Napster subscription model you all like to complain about so lets burn down all the fucking co-ops because they take advantage of all the sorry little farmers.

Come to think of it, you people seem to complain about anything that requires payment. If you figure out how to steal something that costs normal people some reasonable fee, you complain when the owner comes up with a way to stop you. Maybe the real problem is all of you. Maybe the legitimate (non-thieves) should conspire to put you all out of business. Maybe we are, what with the sub $1.00 stock prices all your companies have.

I use limewire and think it is fine - much better IMO than any version of Napster I ever had
So? So you think Limewire is better than Napster, I think it sucks. We are at a draw at this point.

I'm not going to be paying to use napster, and I don't know anyone that is.
Ok, now that you and your fat assed uncle won't be using it, I can be assured that my searches won't turn up shitloads of Britney Spears files. How will this adversely affect their business again?
