  1. Re:Have you ever tried to deploy an AJAX applicati on AJAX May Be Considered Harmful · · Score: 1

You are missing the biggest part. As with every other application or framework, the AJAX ones are released when barely mature. With any other application it 'kinda works' because they rely on a stable base (a JVM, an OS, W3C standards, etc...)

AJAX applications rely on a fragmented unstable and constantly moving base. And no, it is not JavaScript, it is the various DOM implementations and javascript limitations inherent to every different browser. I have written an AJAX framework, and know the pain and the hacks needed to make such a framework usable. The problem is that any browser vendor may chose to disable this CSS feature or this javascript one, or this DOM hack because all of a sudden a whacko has found a way to make it a security vulnerability.

Again, the problem is not with JavaScript or with AJAX, it's with the fragmented unstable base of JavaScript's implementations in web browsers and the 'extra features' the AJAX vendors think they need to make their product competitive (when listing features against a competitor).

So you would see a DVD in the store with the label: "715 seconds of unskippable crap".

    1. An ip telephone where you just plug your phone in and it works. All calls to europe, northern america and most of asia are included in the deal. Calls to mobile phones in France and special numbers are not.
    2. TV broadcast, in MPEG-4, 3Mb/s 720x576 (DVD-res). This includes major channels. Additionnal channels can be added on a one by one basis, so if you're interested in sports you can add sport channels for 1/month each. That's just an example. Newer boxes includes HD as well. The box includes a s-video out, spdif out but you can also broadcast to any device on your LAN.
    3. Internet access (I believe either USB or 100Mb/s TCP/IP.

That's the typical deal in France. That's what I have at home. And best of the best, you can get rid of the France Telecom (the historical operator) bill. So all of that is only 30/month.
