Nobody questions that. This is your own conclusion, not mine.

The era of pre-rendered movies has been over for a few years
So I guess you're implying that all the 'shots' from the 360 are real screenshots. Then I'll ask you why there is a Microsoft Logo on one of them? Do you have to play with the logo on it?

Actually, you're not even close to what it is. This is an amendment (dunno if it's an english word) to a law they are trying to pass, very close to the DMCA. This is there to shut up the people so they look quite positive overall with the entire thing. They they'll remove it just before getting it voted and it'll pass without the crap you're talking about.

Don't be mistaken, the music industry has a big influence in France as well, and they'll not give up on that one. Proof is the damn thing was supposed to be voted in December but the parliament is opposing much more resistance than the majors suspected.

I was saying the exact same thing before I tried. Then I got a palm, and downloaded a couple of free short novels from the internet. I got stuck in like I would have been in a real book. That's when I realized: 'Why Not?' And I downloaded an electronic copy of the novel I was reading then (The Woman in White, Wilkie Collins), I synched it and I started reading.

It is not perfect, far from it. Very far. But it does the trick for me.

So next time, instead of saying "I don't like it" just say "I don't think I'd like it" ;)

Then, I am wondering how they can compare something they couldn't setup with something already set up...

So I keep reading on my phone, and instead of dl'ing and paying, I dl and do not pay. That way I have TXT files that I can view everywhere.

Sad but unfortunately true of all form of media distribution over the internet. When will they learn? We WILL download for it is so much more convenient. We WILL NOT download over-crippled formats because it removes half of the convenience.

Not only that, but the thing just looks like a big advertisement for the Mac Mini. There are overall two sentences about Windows MCE in the entire 'article':

However, compared to the hair-pulling ceremonies we've held getting Window Media Center PCs to display anything at all on a TV, the Mac has delivered a nasty right-hook to Microsoft's fighter.

    And:

Compared to the hours we've spent coaxing similar results out of a Microsoft Media Center system, the Mini is definitely ahead so far.

These guys have a serious problem. I don't even know how anyone can take this king of bullsh*t seriously. They probably just forgot to plug the outlet of the PC... PCs are so complex compared to Macs...

  21. Re:Is the lack of drivers... on Breaking Down Barriers to Linux Desktop Adoption · · Score: 1

The adoption of an operating system has always been the direct or indirect cause of ONE factor, and not 100. The applications. The more applications the better.

Linux is slowly gaining ground over Windows on that front, but we're still FAR from getting there. Windows is the desktop king because almost EVERY application will run on it, irregardless of it running on another OS. THIS AND ONLY THIS is the key factor, as far as personal computers are concerned.

For development, Linux is as rich as Windows (if not richer) application-wise. As a result, many programmers are using Linux.

For general desktop usage, we're just not there yet. Image and video processing just doesn't cut it. Editing software (XPress), DVD copying (tons of soft), MP3 everything (zillions of software), iTunes (important to some), crappy drivers for stupidly cheap USB keys, bluetooth devices, cheap MP3 players, etc...

No matter how you cut it, the Linux application landscape isn't there yet. And don't cite one app in each category I have cited, for the vastness of the Windows applications there far outspace Linux's one.

I've always been in between Linux and Windows, just waiting to make the switch. But to be realistic, Windows has always had a huge advance on that front.

Jobs got there and cut it down in three: iMac, Laptop and Server. Down from dozens to three, very clearly potitionned. In no time, they got back in the market.

Of course, that was not the only factor. By far, but still...

Anyways, it won't recognize my RPC-1 drive... So I guess it's time to switch this HTPC to Linux after all. Cause the MS route is definitely blocked. There is no way in hell I'm going to buy an OS that doesn't let me play my DVDs the way I want it.
