When the video source is a DVD or some other video that's been wrung through the motion estimation process at least once already, it can only get worse. Garbage in, garbage out, Chinese whispers, turd polish, and all that rhythm.
When the source is a DVD it should be much much much easier. But of course it would mean for manufacturers designing a new DVD player instead of just buying the $2 chipset that all DVD players are equiped with. Way too much work.
Because you see, as you mentionned, the motion estimation has already been done, and it is still there right on the MPEG2 file on the DVD. Of course, if you render it first then try to interpolate it will look like shit. But you could very well take the MPEG2/4 primitives and interpolate from this. You get a much much better result.
The exact same thing can be said for upscaling as a DVD/BluRay stores much more than pixels.
If a business wants their corporate viewpoint heard in government, they need to encourage their employees, clients/customers, and distributors to vote in their favor, rather than simply throwing money at the problem.
Well, it doesn't work, while throwing money works. Stopping corruption is going to take more than just "This needs to be said again and again, until it is heard.". A lot more.
Because there is always a fine line between proper lobbying and pure corruption. And also, when regulating a business, the lawmaker needs to understand how the business works. And how do you get informed about the whereabouts of a business? By asking said business. Some business are going to try to be straightforward in the process, some will abuse it.
I don't think everyone in all datacenters take a peek at everything they gets their hands on. But you cannot guarantee that no one will. This basically means someone will eventually.
That said, there is *so much* data in the cloud that if someone wanted to look at everything it would be impossible. Nevertheless I'm sure there are people at Google that *can* read my emails. If I were a google competitor I'd think twice before using gmail as my primary mail service.
There is a real risk with going down that route however, and that is that unless you can get your changes merged into the main branch (far from guaranteed), you are now running a forked version of Linux
Yes but in the worst case scenario (your changed not merged) that buys you time. This is priceless compared to Windows where you're left on your own with an insecure system.
Look, this is not a perfect solution, just because there is no perfect solution. But having an open source system is much better than a closed source one for that very reason. You *can* do it on your own if you need to.
Sorry, we're running life critical systems here. We can't rely on "taking a look at it". We need a guarantee which is just a teeny bit stronger than that. Many of our systems do run Linux, but only because a consulting company is willing to fill that gap and assume the role of supplying custom fixes/patches while we wait for "official" ones to make it into the kernal. It's not that we have anything against the community, but frankly we need someone to take responsibility and to be held accountable for all aspects of our system.
As for this news? Shrug. Anybody who doesn't already have a plan still has two years to figure it out and get one in place. I can't find any sympathy in me for someone who hasn't come up with a solution by then.
Emphasis mine. This is possible only because Linux is open source. Thanks for making exactly the point that needed to be made in favor of an open source OS.
Just after your VPN, the traffic isn't encrypted anymore by the VPN. So someone could listen to the ethernet plug just outside your VPN and he'll get the same data as if he was listening "inside" the VPN. So an intrusion isn't really something you should be worrying about.
The only worry is if the someone also uses your VPN - or your machine - to do illegal stuff (you'd be liable). But then it's true of all your machines...
Well, I've worked with countless FOSS programs and I have to say that MythTV gets the palm by about a couple of miles. All FOSS programs I could get something out of in a few minutes / hours of work. MythTV? Completely different league. You need DAYS to get anything working. And that's for a simplistic setup.
Media Portal is also FOSS and it works all by itself.
The same rackspace from the other day that allowed an unauthorized user to access another's account and transfer several domains, and then offered a paltry half month of free hosting as compensation?
If all you install is OpenVPN, what do you care? Machine compromised? Reinstall the whole thing with a different set of keys. Problem solved.
I'd say that for this purpose a hosting company that is not too rigid on the procedures is all the better.
If you really waste your time writing reviews for Amazon for free, you've got nothing to do here pal. These things are nests of armies of paid-for "moms" and "dads" writing nice things for the products they're paid to write nice things for. Any second spent trying to "crowd-source" those reviews is a second of your life that you'll never recover. And it will benefit no one, except those reviews farms.
Your friend probably doesn't give a rat's ass about this incident because he's not going to live there. So he will get his permit refused and will complain that it's the fault of this F-18, when it's his own greed that is at stakes.
I thought Pluto was 'degraded' of its planet status because it wasn't orbiting the sun in the same plane as the other planets, not because of its mass...
It is true that the US at least has its share of nutjobs. But I think they're much much more prevalent in the US than anywhere else in the world. Just look at creationism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creationism
The US is just ahead of Turkey! There are as many creationists as there are evolutionists! Come on, something's rotten with the US values, and I'm not sure things are going in the right direction.
There are not many governments in southern Europe that would spontaneously generate such a bill. That was my point.
From time to time you can find a prude powermaniac somewhere in the sphere of power but not generally, no. In France for example, there has never been someone in the government that displayed this kind of prude behavior. At the opposite, people go fuck around pretty casually - including our three previous presidents - and no one takes offense.
The level of puritanism in the US and UK has no equivalent in southern Europe. For example, the whole fuss following after Janet's boob at the super bowl 2004 is something unthinkable over here. Unthinkable. Really.
Not that I love flash or anything, but for now Flash works pretty much everywhere (but for iOS). WebM would be a big step backwards as only FF & Chrome supports it.
1. Evolution very much uses the scientific method. Maybe it's your understanding of the scientific method that is off mark? 2. Even if it was just a bunch of wild guesses, as you seem to imply, you'd rather believe a fairy tale mentioning a 'God' which is a magical being for which no one has any clue of what he is, where he comes from, or why does he let us suffer the way we do down there? 3. Being an atheist is not believing "we need to be responsible stewards of this planet"? Where did you read that?
I'm glad I posted the original post to see that thing modded "5, Informative". That's science allright !
But... but... which day did God create that one again?

I'm not holding my breath.
It's a good thing, specially if you want to see the outcome of this before you suffocate.

The real joke is complaining about facebook at all....
It's like complaining that being stabbed is painful..
Nono, it's like complaining that being stabbed also smells bad !

And you would be surprised at how "real" a properly doctored review can look.
RTFM, nigger.
Yassuh !
I think MythTV is in dire need of a more polished and coherent UI. And a comprehensive user and installation guide.
New tech feats are ok, but they'll probably make the whole thing even less useable.
Let's hope they'll incorporate this great Netscape 4 technology in their crappy IE12 !
Kidding of course.

I know, I work for a big e-commerce website.
You just proved once more that "garbage in" == "garbage out"
Sorry about the misunderstanding.

every other country in the world has prude powermaniacs in political office as well.
You should look up Ilona Staller on wikipedia. And Silvio Berlusconi is also a good read. Not every country is as you seem to think it is.

Three things here:
