The commment about the ip address was misleading as well. Any time that information is sent to my computer, I can log the IP address. It doesn't mean that I am going to be doing anything with it.
It also doesn't mean that you won't be doing anything with it...
When will we all finally be so fed up at the consistent invasions of our privacy by media moguls like Real networks, AOL, Netscape (yeah one and the ame..)? We neeed to contact our legislators and demand these practices stop. Maybe if anonymous data was gathered, but to tie it with an IP address really goes beyond any justifiable data collection.
Yeah, blame it on Disney. That is pretty weak. Do you even know what you are saying? Do you have anything to even make that statement mean something? Do you realize Disney employees people in India? Pull your head out of your ass and have a look around....
Microsoft also licensed the technology and called it Windows Terminal Server. If I remember right it is already a part of their Enterprise offerings. It's been a long while since I looked into this. A few years ago we used to demonstrate Citrix Metaframe and it really is impressive. If you go the MS route maybe they'll set you up for free or at a steep discount since you are an edu?
The future is here. We never saw it coming because we are riding it. Imagine targeted pesticide control and fertilization. Cost savings and environmental impacts would be outstanding! Now if we can just convince farmers to fork out the $$$

If the kid was caught, would he be charged with stealing? He didn't take a physical product, he didn't even take the original. He mearly duplicated the files on his iPod. Yeah, it's software piracy, but do yo uthink the local police would have the time to even bother with this? It's not like CompUSA lost a sale or incurred any damages. In fact, CompUSA will probably sell 1000's more iPods just from this article alone!
Personally I haven't been scammed, but I frequent an automobile board (www.ls1.com) and there are quite a few stories in the 'Classifieds' section on members getting ripped off. I am always amazed at how the same person can rip off 10+ people over the course of a year and not get caught/arressted/punished. We have started a blacklist to help warn our members but it's only effective if you read it!:)

If you want to SELL something, get THEIR money first, then send the product. THEY want what you have. If both parties are stubborn then by default they can be trusted.. (not!)
Doesn't anyone read these things before they get posted?
Nope. I usually try to throw out random comments based on what I think the article is about. This way I am more likely to end up on the first page of a multi-paged response to an article posted on./
I did read this one afterwards though and was curious if the courts decision could effect legislation across multiple medias..

What is Tinfoil Hat linux ?
It started as a secure, single floppy, bootable Linux distribution for storing PGP keys and then encrypting, signing and wiping files. At some point it became an exercise in over-engineering.
Tinfoil hat is useful if:
You're using a computer that could have a keystroke logger installed.
http://www.keyghost.com is an example of a tiny & cheap hardware logger.
You need to use your personal GPG keys at work, school or a web hosting facility where you don't trust or own the equipment.
If you maintain a PGP Certificate Authority or signing key and have to have a safe place to use the CA key.
If you simply don't want to risk putting a PGP key on a hard drive
where someone else might have access to it.
The Illuminati are watching your computer, and you need to use morse code
to blink out your PGP messages on the numlock key.
Q: Why doesn't the floppy I got at codecon match the signature above?
A: because I screwed up & wrote a nvram.md5 file to the floppy I then used
as a master. I had to remove that file from every floppy. The result
is that the MD5sum of the codecon floppies should be:
3608290765de7d5283a1a22813677a56
Q: How do I undo that horrible screen in paranoid mode?
A: Type "contrast" at the command prompt, or play with ctheme.
Q: Is this really a 1.0 stable release?
A: Think of this as a linux kernel 1.0 . Yes, it's stable to the best of my
ability, and has been tested, but not for very long or by many people.
Q: What sort of hardware is required to run tinfoil hat?
A:
Any 386DX or faster IBM compatible with more than 8 megs of RAM. Pretty
much any PC made in the last 8 years will work fine.
Q: where do I send complaints, bugs & feature requests?
A: anonymous AT nameless DOT cultists.net
Q: What is the license for this distribution?
A: The scripts, documentation, and the distribution as a collection are
released under a modified BSD license. Obviously, other
people's software in this distribution retain their original licenses.
Tempest for Eliza A fun tool for observing the radiation from your computer. If anybody ports this to Direct FB, I'll put it on tinfoil hat in a flash.
Diceware a tool for generating very secure passphrases.

Bemer started programming in 1949 and came up with the notion of the "escape sequence" while working as IBM's chief of programming standards. "Escape," which can be accessed on most keyboards through the "ESC" key, may seem like an innocuous, seldom-used feature to some computer users but its capabilities are heavily used in virtually all programs.
Thank you Bemer for making my Online Gaming experince much easier. How many times do _you_ use the ESC kay during a good game of MOH:AA??;-)
Why is anyone even trying to talk about XP Home edition with this key generator? Does it phone MS for you and get the activation code? NO! So all of your tirades about XP Home edition are really moot. Who in their right mind would even BUY software that requires you to phone in for an activation key?
Also if I had the money to clone my favorite pet, I would be damn sure to insist it looks identical.. none of this 'The Coat pattern may differ since it is not exclusive to the genes' BS! Bring out the hair coloring kits and get busy!
I am sure when MS stated that Windows could not be stripped down they never imagined anyone would want their sourcecode to verify this. But as stated previously, I doubt that the states that do get the source code (If they ever get it) will be able to do much with it. Even if they do prove their point, what are they going to do? Throw MS CEO's in jail for Perjury? I doubt any CEO these days could write or understand that OS's source code... including Bill himself..
