Prefabbed by whom, her mother or the RIAA. I am starting to thing all of the little girls cutsy statements are driven by her mother. She's probably telling Brianna to lie through her teeth (we didn't know) to keep their arses out of hot(ter) water.
"It's not like we were doing anything illegal," said Torres. "This is a 12-year-old girl, for crying out loud."
I won't be the popular one around here, but I thought this quote was the dumbest thing I have ever heard. The mother thinks the daughter's age allows her (the daughter) to do whatever she wishes! Hey, she's 12, give her a gun and tell her to shoot the number - it's not like she's doing anything illegal, she's a 12-year-old girl, for crying out loud!
As the law stands, she IS doing something illegal and the law is (pseudo) blind to age.
This has been all over the NYC radio news this morning, and yes, they are slanting it towards Brianna being the victim.
(Don't mod me a Troll, just because I have a slightly different opinion...)
I have the same issue. What I do after hearing about a band is go to cdconnection.com (or your favorite online retailer) and then listen to the 30 second clip of each song. I've been able to filter out a lot of crap this way.
Case in point, recently a friend told me about Flybanger. I listened to every song (30 secs each) and decided the CD was worth my $11.
"anti-lock brakes both can accomplish feats that the best driver on the planet Earth couldn't accomplish"
This is utter crap. I read an article (Car & Driver , maybe...it's 2 am and I don't feel like looking for it) stating that ABS takes almost double the amount of space to stop. The only advantage ABS has is to prevent stupid people from jamming on the brakes on ice. Period. It's a device for the lowest common denominator, and the rest of us now have to stop in twice the distance. Ergo, the original poster was quite correct, "no _good_ driver would ever need" (emphasis mine).
I cannot agree more. True story from this past winter. I was changing all of the power outlets in my family room. Of course, the circuit breaker for the room was off. I was in the habit of testing each outlet before taking my screw driver to it. Due to a phone call I left my task momentarily, and when I came back I could not find my tester. Since the other outlets in the room were all off, I was assuming so was the next one. Lucky for me, Darwin likes me, and I remembered where I set down the tester. True story, I swear, that next outlet was live. For reasons I don't understand, one wall in the room was on a different breaker. Leason's learned:
1) Never make assumptions 2) RESPECT electicity 3) I'm a lucking mo-fo.
SCO has shipped these products for many years, in some cases for nearly two decades, and this is the first time that IBM has ever raised an issue about patent infringement in these products."
IANAPA (Patent attorney), but as I understand it, the holder of patent can choose when to enfornce the patent. "Because we have been" is NOT a legal argument.
Big difference between a slang term and a company name. When people are using it as slang, there really isn't much Hormel can do. Once other companies starting using "Spam" (note all lower case) in the company name, they can take legal action (as they are).
"so the Army will be paying twice for each machine"
I RTFA and I saw NO reference to anyone paying twice. The article does not state this deal is for the OS and office, so you, Michael, should not assume anyone is paying twice.
I know, I know. NO, I am not new here. Yes, I know/. is slanted. It still irritates me though.
YES! Someone who gets it! Can I please share the parkway with hundreds of 'snacks' from now on??
Seriously, I have been saying that driver education courses are severly (* 100) lacking. Everyone should at least take a defensive driving course (and why not, 10% of your insurance for 3 years!) in the least. A Master Drive course would be even better.
I know you meant this as funny, but, unfortunately, this will happen. My main complaint with cars is they are too easy to drive thus lowering the bar to entry. It allows people who otherwise were too afraid to or couldn't drive out on the roads. meaning: A hazard.
I read a report a while back that stated that all these "features" were causing more accidents because people were too confident or distracted because they didn't _have_ to pay as much attention.
Making cars easier to drive is not a good thing. Personally, I think all cars should be manual thus taking the cell phone out of someone's hand.
Back to my point, some people *really* will think they way posted. That, my friend, is farking scary.
Parking space? I was thinking of highway/parkway space. When was the last time you saw people in NY leave 300ft at highway speeds? 3ft? Maybe, if you are lucky, and that's at 75!
If this thing slowed you down any time there was a car within 300ft in NY, you'd be driving past your origination point in reverse!
(Yes, I live in NY and use the highway system every day. So no, I'm NOT trolling.)
I have been wondering about this as well. I am sure there are many people with access to the *n*x source. Why does SCO assume IBM has pasted in the code?
My Prof in Netprog showed us a old version of some crappy software (that has been since been repaired). He then installed the code on a server and proceeded to hack into the machine. Seeing this live demo followed up by code analysis REALLY hit home buffer overruns. I really believe this made me a better programmer.
In this case, we learned to "hack" but there was certainly no harm and no foul. I remember to check/fix overruns, but I would have to check my notes on the steps for hacking it.
Your problem is you possess such an idealistic view of the government. I would agree with your statements if, in fact, the government was 100% concerned with public services. Unfortunately, government waste is rapant (http://www.cagw.org). Given the ways it shells out money, I believe the government is more like a corp. than you think.
I have no trouble paying taxes; however, Uncle Sam likes to find new and different ways of taxing us (gas, alchohol, cigs, phone, income, etc.) such that it doesn't appear we are paying so much. I would estimate that between 40 - 50% of our income goes to the government.
The government should tighten it's belt and eliminate pork and other wasteful spending.
Interesting comment. I partly agree with you - it comes down to your roommate selection. My sophomore year I incorrectly chose a friend of mine who was a Spanish major as a roommate. He never had homework and was constantly challenging me to a game of beer. My GPA suffered badly (though I had loads of fun!) From then on out I roomed with other CS majors to help maintain focus.
I found the labs to be much to noisy/busy to work in. Having a room computer, IMHO, was much better.

Wow, I never thought I'd see a Marist Ref on a site like /. If you go 20 miles outside of Poughkeepsie, people say "What's a Marist?"
:-)
There is hope for my alma mater yet...

Shock & Awe
I was wondering what was taking IBM so long to respond - the wanted enough ammo to give SCO's lawyers heart attacks.
I promise you will never be the same again.
The Museum of air and space is cool too, but not as enlightening.
"Can't you just ask a question, like:
how much is 2 + 2?"
Seriously, as other people have already pointed out, this discrimates against the stupid and illiterate (sp?).

"I imagine you believe Foxnews when they say they're fair and balanced too"

NOOOOO. Foxnews is the worst, followed closely by the NY Post.
I agree everyone is slanted to a degree, but the assumptions implied by the

"watching a newscast while naked and showering"
a) We geeks don't see too well in the shower once our glasses get all fogged up and wet.
b) Tom Brokaw is not has much to sign along too in the shower.
c) Put in porno and people would be in there a little too long.

"Speeding: $50 surcharge"
But Judge, I SWEAR, it was on the back of a tow truck!
To be on topic, will people get charged for the miles they are on a tow truck? This idea has more holes in it than Martha Stewart's defense.

Just drive backwards, and the miles come right off.

IBM has repeated stated they will not create a distro. I would assume this is RH.
