    Intelligence is important. Inability to deal with other humans makes intelligence less valuable.

    That's a meaningless comparison, unless you also specify the distance from your eye to the media. I guarantee that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 300 dpi and 1200 dpi on a movie theater screen that you're sitting 30' from. (Yes, I know that nobody would ever try those absurdly ridiculously crazy high resolutions with video)

    I've seen large-screen presentations of modest-resolution data, and it looks pretty OK. Your brain interprets moving pictures differently from text.

    Is there a threshhold beyond which you can't discern? Absolutely. For video, it's a heck of a lot lower than 300dpi, even for home theater applications.

    Taxes from industries that would not exist except for satellite communications pay NASA's budget dozens of times over. Who's to say where the next breakthrough economic windfall will occur?

    Space is hard. Doing hard things creates interesting solutions to problems. Doing that a lot is a good idea.

    I'm with you, I think the moon is a waste of time.

    Mars, however, is the place humans will go to live next. Most of the problems you describe are either a) indelible aspects of the human condition and b) mitigated by the availability of a frontier.

    Don't you think that somebody who lives on Mars is going to become a King Kong Jedi badass sustainability engineer? Don't you think that some of those techniques will be exportable back to Earth?

    NASA's budget is peanuts. The return on investment is literally incalculable.

    I sometimes wish we were an imperialistic nation. That way, we wouldn't have to listen to all these hostile governments opposing our interests.

    Since you can't go ANYWHERE without encountering governments hostile to the United States, I think it's pretty clear that the "imperialism" charge doesn't have any teeth. Either the US is not imperialistic, or else it's not very good at it.
