Not to mention the prevention/removal of digital output jacks from consumer minidisc recorders to begin with, despite them already being SCMS compliant...). "

Now, wait a minute. I own a minidisc recorder (portable), and in my search for a machine to use at work as well as at the gym, I took the time to make sure that the unit I was buying was a direct digital transfer device. Yes, they sell most of their devices with the analog converter (which, from what I've heard, is actually quite good - since you get rid of the interference inside the computer case), but you can find ones with the digital interface.

The interface I have is here: http://www.minidisco.com/minispecs/xitelmdportdg2. html

I do agree, however, the lack of digital output on a minidisc player (of any kind) is extremely absurd. I've not been able to find a decent, reasonably priced deck even that has the outputs (read: less than 250$).

Plus, I do own an amplifier (for the home theater) and I must say, it's definitely a hell of a piece of equipment.

Sony's one of those companies that is so big that certain parts can make MAJOR screw ups, but that doesn't mean everything they have is crap. In fact, I would say the good much outweighs the bad, in terms of their build quality and sound/sight quality.

    my 2 cents...

I looked at normal Projection TV's. Nah, still too expensive.

I glanced at the Sony Wega monitors. Sweet, but still too expensive.

What did I end up with? I bought a friend's 27" JVC that has S-Video inputs. Was it worth 100$? You bet your ass. Would I have liked a bigger/better TV? Possibly, but I just don't have that kind of spank to throw around.

I would consider a HDTV if they were more comparable to plain old NTSC tv's, but they're not. In some cases, they're getting closer, but for now, S-Video and 27" is just fine for me.

I would very much doubt (not that I've looked into it...) that you could send money to an artist alone, since (as it's been said before) most artists are considered work for hire, and their work doesn't truly belong to them (from a contract standpoint). So if you're not paying everyone and their brother for your honest-to-goodness copy of that CD, then it's still illegal.

Obviously, my 2 cars definitely don't qualify for the emissions or fuel economy award (not by a long stretch), but I would worry about being in this car, in rush hour traffic, and someone barreling over me with a vehicle bigger than mine (anything bigger than a small motorcycle, anyways.)

They (corbin motors) do have some safety items listed (as far as what's used in the car to make it safer in an accident), but there's no crash data. I'd for one like to see that, but in all honesty, I could see paying about 8-10k for one. A price tag of 15,000USD is a little steep; I would probably go for a used civic or something along those lines for better gas milage, but more safety (at least in the thought that bigger may be better, compared to some cars on the road...)

Bad: Takes 1:1 to transfer a song to MD (Sony has some new MD recorder out in Japan that will record from USB at 4x for "non-MDLP" recordings, but it has restrictions (DRM)), and the many media problem.

Good: Compared to a solid-state solution, MiniDiscs are around 2$ a piece. I'd compare that to about 160mb or so of ram (since my mp3's are almost all VBR with a high ceiling of 320), so cost is less. In addition, I've not had mine skip yet (even when running at a modest pace).

So, I'd love to have a fast transferring solid state player, but I don't want to have to pay > 50$ for 10 albums (I can leave an album on one minidisc if I get sick of it, and use it in my home mini-system to sleep to....)
