I think a good common ground could come out of this. Consider my situation. I use my bank card for most purchases, use online banking to pay all bills, and can still go to the money machine if I need cash.
Sure, I truly abhor going to the money machines now, but life is a lot better not having to stuff envelopes......
Hear Hear! I've owned a playstation Console for quite some time now (2+ years?), and even have a mod chip in it so I can play Gradius Gaiden -- But I haven't so much as looked at it for about 6 months since the computer gaming arena (q3 etc) provides:
*better graphics *better multi-play
I can't believe that any true geek can appreciate playstation/n64's way of multiplay... having the screen split to 2 (or in N64's case, 4...ugh!). Now, the playstation has the serial link, and it is available for some games, but how many people have 2 playstations and 2 tv's lying next to each other?
I'll keep my playstation, just because I only buy games I like, and I regret selling my other systems (but isn't emulation great....) I see a certain nostalgia effect with my consoles, reminding me of my early days of zelda etc., but as far as hard core fun gaming, the PC definitely has my vote.
plus, not to mention the fact that once you're used to the power, you can almost never go back...
Consider quake1/2 on a plain vanilla voodoo1 card... not too shabby.... I upgraded to a voodoo3 and was heartily impressed.. I'd never go back... especially since q3test runs okay but slow on a voodoo1...
Another good point was made about cars... sure, I could drive around a chevrolet metro, but why, when I'm used to the power of my tweaked Camaro Z28???
Not going to happen. I'll keep the speed, and any increases (even if not "necessary" by any standards) are more than welcome.....
I had a similar problem with Netscape 4.5 on Win95... if I scrolled down too far, it would lock the whole darn system. So far, my only *shrug* fix is to throw on IE 5.0...
Kind of makes me wonder. I see the possibility for good and bad in this. On one side, the child should be punished for not sticking around where he should have... but kids will be kids.
On the other hand, maybe the kid has a little more brainpower (at least, a means to an end) than most 6 year olds who are just worried about nappy-time...
Now, I'm not saying this is the smartest kid in the bunch, but he's not the dumbest. Heck, if it took him a mile to get caught ON THE HIGHWAY, no less, then I'd say it's the motorist's fault for not getting a clue at that point.
I used to have the "1000" model, I believe, but the image quality was washed. I did do a search for it on the internet (yahoo excite, any engine you can find), and tacked on "linux", and found a site outside the us where the protocol was "reverse engineered". I would have to believe they use similar formats, since they were out about the same time. Take a quick search... you may be suprised at what you find.
I remember seeing these "audio" cds at a local record store... thinking.. "Hmmm... maybe I should buy those, since I'm burning audio cds..."
Then, my eyes peered over to the new Sony cdr's. 10$ for 3, or 15$ for 10? That's where I think they're wrong... I can make my own audio cd's from the comfort of my keyboard, and put them in a regular cd player.
Naturally, a computer is more expensive than "Phillips do it yourself audio cd burner", but I feel the cost is more justified....:)
well, at that point, you'd have a real limitation as to who could have what freq. #'s to broadcast over. I believe that's one reason for limiting the sig strength.
Plus, on the harmonics, at higher power, you'd get a "bleed-over" (correct me if I'm wrong) and the harmonic frequencies would be unusable at best.
I concur. Albeit, the only reason I feel that Radio is not dead is because of the ease of the format -- you can jump in almost any car and turn on the radio, without having to have a cd or tape with you. Even though I am pretty much a non-user of radio, I see it's benefits, and do wish for a more "quality" oriented service -- FM has outlived it's limitations, and although it's passable, it's definitely not the kind of quality I can get out of what I consider a "hi-fi" system.
Heck, with all the bandwidth, even 160k mp3's streamed over the airwaves would be more passable, I'd put in my bid for 256kb... but that's just me... and it could probably be done inexpensively... even if you did 5 second retransmits to keep the signal flowing... anyone have any thoughts on this? (yup, I don't think anyone will reply, since this has been up for a day...)
as far as your wrapper goes, for multiple access across disks, couldn't something be written to cache every file request, and spit that out off the hd instead of the cdr? then it could whack that cached file after, say 10 minutes or so...
This would create a problem if you were perusing about 3000 files... fill up that cache disk quite nicely...

you would also have to wonder about the cars you'd put this in. Personally, my camaro would probably eat one alive with all of the potholes here in good ole ohio.... I would rather put one in a car that I would know would handle shock well for me, because in a really stiff car, I'm sure you can hit in the hundreds of g's.... ka-wham... (not intentionally, of course, accidents do happen...)
The question I have is what will this do to the lawsuit against WinAMP? Would AOL be able to provide a protective shield, or would WinAMP's previous leads have to still defend themselves? IANAL..... of course....
I think you hit the nail on the head right there. I could understand if we were all upset about the way RIAA treats the musicians, and is getting ever more cautious about mp3's... But what we need to do is give the artist more freedom. Let's face it, yea, we all have an mp3 collection, and I'm sure most of those could be considered illegal. Let's not forget that even though bands like playing music, sometimes they might want to eat.... (that's why I'm not in a band.. yet.....)
boy, this sounds like a flame waiting to happen...
I must applaud the site, even though it is something that may have been done before on a greater scale, this is with something that an every day joe can buy. Anyone can buy a set of Mindstorms, but I for one wouldn't have thought of trying to do this with them. BRAVO!:)
Easy solution for this -- use right hand on trackball, firing and aiming, and map left hand on exfs or some other combo of keys to do your movements... I've found this the very BEST way to play Q2, mouse or trackball.... railgun right up the nose every time!
EEEK! heck, for that money now, you could get a decently hefty hard disk... consider my situation, with 24 gigs of storage at home (that's only counting one server) it makes things really nice....
103?
what are you smoking?
Amen. I've been wanting to know the answer to this for a long time, rather than plunging headfirst into something I have very little information on.
Anyone want to clue in the clueless(myself)?
That's precisely why I have a sports car... 2 of them.. and a big old boat for a work car. I have them because I wanted them.
:)
Not that I would buy an SUV, personally I have no reason... but if you choose to, so be it. And I'll see ya in the rear view mirror..
as is, you would think the seek rates would be horrible at best... pick up the needle, track to the right spot, wait , wait, drop....
Granted, it doesn't actually "touch" the surface, but I'm sure you probably couldn't just zoom this across the whole surface... ???
whew.....

I remember switching from programming in Extended Basic to Assembly.... not having to interpret the language at runtime was awesome...
But, since they used the video memory for system RAM, the thing was reeeallllyy... slow.
sorry, off topic slightly...

THANK YOU!!! YOU DA MAN!!! cdrom.com is getting crushed....4k... I got 60 FROM YA!!! jeesus....
does anyone else think of Command And Conquer - Red Alert when we talk of this???
bbbzap..bzapbzap...
you don't know how hard you had me laughing with that statement.....
As an owner of a 3x, I can only say it has helped my handwriting....
My signature still seems to be illegible, though....
