The post you're responding to wasn't worried as much about burning gas in this instance, as they were worried about putting undue stress on engine components while going down a hill.
It makes sense. Spinning something at 2k rpm is probably a little more "wearing" on main bearings etc. than spinning at 1k rpm (or wherever the idle is in a saturn... probably closer to 6-700rpm.)
On an offtopic note, I hope that GT will allow for multiple saves on one memory card.
Had a roomate at one point that couldn't really "play" the game, since I wouldn't go buy a memory card for him. (Wasn't his PS2, and I don't blame him for not throwing away 30$ just to save his GT stuff...)
"and I can store about 130 uncompressed shots on it."
I'm just being picky, but as someone who owns an A70 (and has owned an A40), you can't store pictures from Canon's "user" line of digital cameras in uncompressed mode. Superfine, yes....
Of course, consumer grade camera users probably don't need RAW. I know I enjoy taking pictures with my digital, but even after making prints from 1600x1200shots (or higher), I can't see any JPEG artifacting at superfine.
Problem with that is that then the person will have to carry around all of the springboards, just as if they'd have to carry around individual devices.
Somehow I think you are talking out of your butthole.
One of the hardest things to do in current multi-processor setups is keep memory and cache in coherence. Why is this important, you ask?
Well, just like in a database, you do not want to have 2 seperate accesses to a certain location for an "update". If processor 1 and processor 2 go for the jugular on a certain memory location, it's all over....
Now, with the 2 cores sharing a cache, the board logic will not have to deal with this problem. Hence board prices go down. And, if it's true, AMD should be able to produce these close to what the high end chips are today (pricewise).
Actually, what upsets me more is the fact that someone with a high powered linear can affect more than just equipment that deals solely with Radio Waves.
For instance, I watch tv, and pipe the audio through a home theatre receiver, which is then fed to my speakers. A few months ago, about once a week, we get this horribly loud noise of a trucker blaring out on his CB. Naturally, I thought it was a bit odd, because we're probably 2 miles or so to the nearest highway. In fact one evening it forced my receiver into an overload condition....
The problem here is that I can't exactly pinpoint the source of the signal and say "cut that out", because the guy is on the move. All I can do is hope that the guy gets on a different route and leave my poor amplifier alone.
The one I'm anxiously awaiting is Gradius V. Konami keeps slipping the ship date (girlfriend wanted to buy it for me for my bday last year in december, but they pushed the date out.) I'm really really anxious to see if it's any better than Gradius IV, which in my opinion was good, but not as good as Gradius Gaiden for the Japanese PS1.
IF you love side scrolling shooters, get a modded ps1 and purchase a copy of gradius gaiden off of ebay or somewhere. I guarantee you won't regret it... darn, is that music catchy....
As much as I'd love to see everyone drive around in geo metros or honda insights, can I say one thing:
Fuck you.
No, really. I own a Grand Marquis. People call it an old man's car, but the thing will carry shit and my sorry sack of bones more comfortably than other vehicles I test drove.
My girlfriend drives an F150. It comes in very handy when we do improvements to the house, in addition to her only driving 1 mile to work one way a day.
Neither of these vehicles are "top of their class" in fuel efficiency. In fact, the F150 is downright miserable. However, neither I nor my girlfriend can AFFORD to go buy a tiny gas sipper since we have vehicles that currently fit our needs.
Jesus Christ, I understand that people need to be aware of the damage they can do to the environment. Just because you want me to buy one won't put the money in my damn checkbook.
At that point, it almost sounds like you could do the bad sector remapping in software (i.e. a driver) instead of relying on the firmware to invisibly remap for you.
Of course, the drive would have to give a status message back to you to let you know about the bad sector, but I'm assuming that happens anyways?
Just make sure you're not holding on to the NIMH battery(s) when you're trying to get the smoke out. You can cause burns.

Actually, for the application in which we're talking about (electric motors) - the ability to discharge quickly is a plus....
or are you talking about self-discharge?
Of course, where your big negative came into my mind was in case of a short -- those puppies sure can get a wire smoking!
Good point, and that even more so highlights my ignorance at any rate of photography.
But again, on a "consumer" camera, I doubt we'll see RAW for a while, for 2 reasons:
1. People like myself, while not "stupid", really don't care.
2. Memory card space. While this won't be an issue in the future, right now Uncle Joe wants the most pictures for his $.
If you pour gasoline on it before you activate it, sure.
"I'd really like to keep PalmOS based so that I can sync with my wife..."
:)
You know, I can't say that I've ever used my PDA to sync with my girlfriend....
You're new here, aren't you?

Just don't plug the tranceivers into the same circuit as the rest of the equipment. Should be isolated there, too.

I'd buy that!

Man, I might have to pick that game up.

"cluster-a-trois".
Actually, I've failed at that. Way back when I didn't know how to configure TCP/IP settings.
Boy, was my machine mad at me.
But only if it's not:
Conan... the Librarian.
Tonight, on U-52.

Which leads me to ask the question.
:)
What is the maximum sustainable speed in Mb/s of the Alcatel 8100 series router?
"(perhaps daily instead of once a week)"
Once a week? Hell, I'm happy to clean it every other month!
Not being virgin equipment doesn't bug me as much as it used to.
Hell, once you get to be around 30ish, you'll find it's hard to get anything that's virgin anymore. Unless you're just plain sick.
Or it sucks it in, and BZZZT shreds the ballot, requesting a re-do.
Ummm. I believe the actor who played Dumbledore in Harry Potter died.
Slight difference from being "replaced". However, the only reason I know that is because of my girlfriend... (yes, some of us have 'em..)

Was that so you wouldn't have to provice support?

Of course not. Gotta keep up with the jonses, though
