  1. Re:Bittorrent? on SUSE 9.1 FTP Version Available · · Score: 1

I've gotten into using bittorrent for files lately, and let me tell you.. nothing is easier than finding an open tracker and getting the files that you need.

As well, it can handle multiple files in multiple directories, not just one file per torrent.

So this would be a perfect application. I know that when I read this article on slashdot, the first thing that I did is read through the comments to see if anybody posted a .torrent. Sadly, none yet.

Also, keep in mind that current won't necessarily fry a device.

If you attempt to supply too high an amperage to a device, it will only take what it needs (at least that is what I've found with most consumer electronics... other than LEDs)

However, too much voltage will always rip things apart if you've not the right fuse or protection. I'd add a fuse to this setup for the battery's sake; you would probably rather have a blown linksys than acid on your back.

I was sitting here wondering why they didn't use 10xnimh 9ah "d" cell batteries, and then realized the cost for that kind of setup would be way more than finding a lead acid (or even sealed) battery. I would have to think that the weights would be about the same, though.

But the averaging could give you major differences.

Let's say you painstakingly get the movies to somewhat line up, and only concentrate on the center 80% of each video.

You could have a program "watch" the two of them, and then spit out a report on a time (second by second) basis as to a "change factor". That should easily eliminate 1/2 to 3/4 of the film to scan for the watermarks.

And the watermarks I've seen are blatant; not subtle.

    1. The player's screen probably won't be the same resolution as your video, so you'll be able to save space this way.

    2. Since the screen is so small, doing a Divx-style codec on it isn't going to hurt the detail level, so you save a ton of space there.

I can easily fit a two hour movie divxed, in full res (720x480, minus the black bars) on 2 cds (1.4GB), with little loss in perceived quality.

Of course, if you need something to shuffle films around, you probably do need something that will store it, but not necessarily play it.

I have a question for you. I currently live in Columbus, Ohio, and the mass transit here is pretty sparce. We have COTA, but that's about it, other than taxi cabs.

How much more is the metro in your area for a week? Is it less than the total cost of owning a car? Obviously, you need to have a car to get to certain areas the metro doesn't go, but if I could, I would ditch two of the three cars me and my girlfriend currently own.

Why do we own 3 cars? Well, if one breaks down, it's kind of a hassle to get anywhere in this town. Granted, my personal selfish reasons for keeping them around outweigh the costs in my opinion, but if I had the option I would eliminate 2 out of 3 for the cost alone.
