I could be wrong, but I think the odd=devel, even=release thing is not universal. I know Gimp and the Linux kernel do it, but many things don't do it. Again, I could be wrong, but the stuf redhat releases as devel is that, the stuff with version numbers is stable.

As the world relies more on the 'net, the communications infistructure will have more and more seperate connections... redundency... So those four cables are a noticable problem now, but as there is more data, there will be more, seperate connections (yes each connection will also get faster, but still...)

Next time something like this happens, there will be more other ways for the data to go, so the % slow down will be less... (I hope :-)

I hate to say it, but I agree. I find IE much faster, cleaner, and more stable feeling than NS. For an alpha release, it looks like Mozilla is doing well, it's not there yet.

I've tried KFM, and that's prety nice for linux, but it's not yet a full fledged web browser.

Suffice it to say, If IE would run smoothly under Wine, I'd use it. I wish this were not the case, but it appears to be. :-(

I took C++ in high school last year. We each had PII 300mhz computers. Seeing as we only used 99% of those mhz when we compiled every now and then, I'd thik a thin client solution would work well and be cost effective.

I'm sure one of those PII's could have handled all the compiling for everyone, seeing as compiles take 5 seconds and the compile jobs would be evenly distributed over time.

The rest is just text editing.

You have basicly three options for text input. First is handwriting recognition, sorta. It's called "graffiti". To save processor power and increse acuracy you write differently (an a is an upside down v like /\. it sounds odd and some don't like it but I can write with it almost as fast as I can write with a pen on that flat white stuff.

The second is an onscreen keybord. That sucks.

The third is an external addon (70USD?) keybord that is about twice the size of the palm. I havn't used one but there was a favorable review of it on ugeek.com

IMHO all of these beat the rest of the PDAs (winces have tiny keybords or none at all and/or they have onscrene keybords/handwriting...

There is no GNOME2.0 pre alpha because gnome was started a year after KDE
and no one should use CVS expecting a stable product so there is no reason to complain.

I am using todays CVS gnome and finding its advances quite nice, though as Enlightenemnt does more it's begone to take over the desktop portion of GNOME (or KDE).

It will be interesting to see what KDE's themes do for looks, esp. how well will gtk themes match real gtk. From the screenshots I've seen of KDE, even with the latest themes, I find it a bit gawkey (personal oppinion :-)

The thing both do is bring new applications to linux which is in everyones best interest.
