Buying a New TV?

· Score: 1
I have, it's a Sanyo X1 that does 16:9 and cost me about 1400 Euros (less in dollars). I bought it in the US. I use a screen I made myself, but am constantly looking for a cheap replacement. I dont through to the wall as it does not look at all good. Check out a few forums on this topic. In german you ca use: www.beisammen.de. The picture quality is great, I through 2m times 1,1m. The windows have black courtains behind the normal ones (so you can't see them from inside). The curtains I bought at a cloth shop and are 100% synthetic, no light goes through, and they where cheap. Contrast is good. I am planing to connect a MythTV PC in the future using the RGB input (S-Video right now for DVD and Composite for TV), but am having trouble finding a graphic card that can do the odd 1/4 HDTV resolution of the sharp. We love the Projector, as we move a lot and it takes the predominant place of a TV out of our livin room. I am not worried about the 2000+ hours of the light bulb, as TVs nowerdays are not made to last long either (5 years in my experience) but the lightbulb extends the life of our projector for ever...
I am sorry but I disagree, and to put the record straight, I vote the green party and am socialist of nature (German;-). Most of my life I grew up in South America. I know these "sweat shops" you are refering to, because I visited them regularly, as my father was in the business of importing/servicing/consulting cloathing manufacturers. Yes, compared to current US and European living standards the workers at such factories are not living well, but ask any of them and they will tell you they are gratefull to have this job, as it provides them with the oportunity to move into the middle class over time. Buy their own home, start their own business, and for them most importantly: send their children to school!
Don't believe me? Well, my fathers business went bancrupt after a kidnapping by "leftish" guerillas. He had to let go 500 direct employees, and the indirect losses can be counted in the '000.
Anyhow, my advice to you is to live in one of these countries you want to "help" and get the big picture. You will soon realize that it is the trade barriers we have build up in the US and Europe that makes it hard for them to grow out of missery, as no export no growth...
Was thinking about this... you get 2 weeks from the time you get the notice from them. Why not also go to your nearest used CD store and buy the CDs that you are sued for. Now take those to court with you. The burden of proof sits with them... or not?
This is the email I got back after sending my opinion to my Politians (green germans) in the European Parlament:
Thank you for your email concerning the McCarthy report on computer implemented inventions (com 2002-092). Like all Green parties in the European Union, we share your concern that software patents and patents on business methods are a threat for the European software developpers.
The Greens/Efa in European Parliament are fighting on this dossier in order to prevent software patents to be legalized in the Union; we have organized two conferences with Richard Stallman (in November 2002 "Is software patenting necessary?" and in May 2003 "Software patents and SMEs" with David Axmark, Opera, Graphic Convertor,...). You will find more info on our website http://www.greens-efa.org
Regarding our work inside European Parliament we tabled amendements - and won- in the culture committee and again in the industry committee but we lost in the committee for legal affairs as the rapporteur (Arlene Mac Carthy, member of the Social Democrat Group, UK Labour) refused any compromise. We thus voted against her text.
Lately we opposed the very fast and very discrete attempt to add the report on the plenary of July : it is now scheduled for September (see http://www.europarl.eu.int).
You can be ensured that we will defend software freedom in plenary as well.
Sincerely yours,
mit freundlichen Grüßen

How about being your own FM station. Not the CD quality you might want... but cheap... well just a thought: http://www.pc2radio.com/en/products.php?sub=pc_fm_ trans
Left or right sentiment aside, if or not the FARC is a terrorist organization is of little interest to me. My mother was kidnapped by this friendly group of crooks in the mid 1990s. The rescue cost our family enough to bancrupt the company my father at build up over 30 years, leaving 500 employees without work. Yes, the money probably was spent on the right things by the FARC, like better schools or drinking water for the poor, an not on more landmines and weapons (this is sarcasm if it has not been clear). I don't like Colombian (with an o instead of u) politics, I don't like right wing paramilitaries, actually I don't like anyone telling me what I _have_ to think or do (I think/.ers are like me). The FARC is leading a more than 30 year battle agains a country of pretty good people (I count myself in) who lead one of the oldes Democracies in the World. As part of this I'd like to say, leave the links alive. Let everyone see, and understand what the FARC wants to do, and then compare it with what they realy do. Everyone should have the chance of drawing their onw conclusions. I have drawn mine: I can't live in Colombia anymore.
Might be true, if you don't count in that I pay taxes and therefore OWN the computer at my library (unless it is a Commercial Library or you don't pay taxes:-). Strange, Webster thinks that libraries are: A considerable collection of books kept for use, and not as merchandise; as, a private library; a public library. Fee Speach I think...

Do you want to understand why your manager has no clue how to make you proud of your work? Read "Out of the Crisis" a book written by Edward Deming in the 60s about US Management. It still applies today, I am sorry to say. After reading it, send it anonymously to your CEO as a present.
I have one too: Loom: I loved Monkey Island, and that pirate said the game was good, so I got it... Loom sucked
I just miss FreeCraft :-(
