    I was actually planning on paying for tethering and dropping my land line internet once sprint brought 4g to my city. No more. I'll just keep using an unofficial tether program on the occasions I find it useful.

    FTL != backwards time travel.

    If light takes 1 day to travel a distance and an FTL neutrino takes 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds to travel the same distance and then reflect both back at the source, the neutrino arrives 1 day, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 58 seconds after it is sent. That is distinctly not the past.

    If the company buying the data at auction is not held to the same privacy standards as the original, this means that shell companies can be formed to gather information under strict nondisclosure, then intentionally fold and provide the information without restriction and in violation of the original disclosure agreement.

    To infringe copyright, you actually have to make a copy. Many of the seized sites never made a copy.

    Yea, but then you could have problems controlling traffic and it can be a pain to seal the whole thing off in case of a goblin invasion or digging to deep.

    The county inspection office isn't getting rich off of it. But there is a huge problem with the cost of regulations on the minimum quality of housing in a society where a significant fraction of the poor can not afford to meet those regulations. I know my parents would be perfectly happy to live in a 200sq ft shack if they were allowed to build one.

    Lasers in the 1 watt range DO work like that when they hit anything that isn't perfectly matte black. I am not talking about a keychain laser pointer. I am talking about a laser that poses an instantaneous blinding hazard to a range of dozens of kilometers on a direct hit and up to a kilometer from specular reflection.

    I saw we own the phrase. Just like a black man or homosexual takes control of the words used to oppress him. Embrace class warfare. Rise up and stand against them. Use your voice, your vote and your guns if needed to take a stand and show them that the tide of this battle is now turning. And in the long run that tide will wash over them.

    The only way to find out is to buy a $1000 wicked laser and go camera hunting. Of course, you risk blinding anyone in the area if they happen to be looking in that general direction.

    multiple independent processes on a single core can cause a speedup over the same tasks in a single process because other processes can run while one is waiting for IO.

    I do use eclipse almost exclusively for java, afraid c++ was a school/hobby only thing for me. For me the only gripes I have left with eclipse are that startup and switching to debug can be a little slow.

    I have spent years with each professionally and I like them both. I write java for a living and c# at a previous job. They are different, but both are excellent IDE's.

    I have only rarely had problems with Eclipse, possibly twice in the last 3 years and those were caused by a poor choice of plugins. Eclipse definitely has the better unit test integration with junit while visual studio has for so long required an external program like Gallio to run unit tests. It also has a superior search option and more intuitive keyboard shortcuts. Visual studio does have a better default view and intellisense. And if you are doing GUIs there is no competition for VS drag and drop system, but in my experience stringing together GUI elements is a very minor part of the work I do.

    Visual Studio is great, but Eclipse is just as good as a platform. For some reason, every time I say this, I get modded down.
