Alright what about General Motors or any other Auto maker? Blind people can not legally drive so what need do they have for a car. Now if you tell me there is a blind driving club, great, let the blind driving club have an accessible website.
Almost everyone with whom this has come up in conversation despises when people do this. Indeed, most people (such as myself) simply hang up when we get the answering machine of someone who plays the screen game with their machine.
No one I know feels this way. If people hang up I figure they have nothing important to say.
There are systems nowadays that are meant for screening, and they don't force the person through the motions of leaving a message
Why should I pay for CallerID when I get the same service an ans. machine?
None of my friends do the Hello? You there? shuffle. They just start their message, I pick up and we start the conversation form there. This is not rocket science...

I do not take friends for granted, however, when I am watching a movie I hate to be interrupted by a phone call. Lazy has nothing to do with it. I want to watch the movie from start to finish wihout interruptions.

Why should I pick up a phone just to please you or someone like you? If you hate leaving messages, I guess you do not have anything to say that is worth hearing.

I am a fan of Flight Sims and the more realistic the better as it relates to realistic flight characteristics, i.e. you fly into a mountain you die, not come out the other side unscathed. I also like realistic instrumentation, scenery etc. I want an Me 262A to look like an Me 262A. -rant mode off

Yeah they know a lot about *living* in space. Its getting a ride home that they have problems with... Face it they are broke and no amount of money is going help the situation(unless of course Ross Perot decides to dump a load of cash for this mis-adventure).
Lets see now, they "give" you something for "free" and then tell you that you can not do with it as you please, sounds LAME to me!

Oh and the other reason is just as you say, they are trying to make money but, they screw the pooch and end up with this LAME business model which is dubious from the start...
