i've recently purchased a book from audible.com.
first of all, after downloading the book, i realized that the book was in a proprietary format and i was forced to use a proprietary player (which basically sucked because it stuttered from time to time). i was unable to hear the book on my linux machine and had to install a microsoft product just to listen to it. what the hell is wrong with this picture?
that's like purchasing a book from the bookstore and having to read it with a special decoder spyglass! or how about purchasing a music cd that only plays on Sony CD players?
this is a serious issue and it needs to be fixed before it gets out of hand.
for this, i played the book on one machine, and recorded the audio onto another. then, i changed the recorded format to MP3 so i'm able to listen to it on my linux machine. i should make the MP3 available to the public just to spite those idiots...
many hardcore gamers of EQ don't want some newbie kicking their ass just because his parents are rich. sony maybe afraid that they might lose the support of many hardcore gamers. as far as sony is concerned, they aren't gaining anything if account ownership tranfers from one individual to another...and if this happens at the cost of other players' accounts going belly up, you can bet sony is against it.
whoa, whoa cowboy!
mysql is not out the crush the oracle competition! mysql and oracle are too different applications designed for different solutions. wanna make the next ebay? use oracle. wanna make a lightning fast accounting app for a small to medium sized business? use mysql.
please don't compare the two in this regard.
i can understand the MPA in one regard:
they claim that when renting DVD movies from a video store, one should not be allowed to copy the movie. ok, ok i will say OK to that. however, when one PURCHASES the movie, it's no longer considered pay per view. you own the rights to watch that movie when and where you feel like, and there should be no limiting factors.
keyboard dirty?
just drop that mofo into your bathtub with warm water and scrub it..
let it soak for a few hours and scrub again.
then, hang up (outside works) by its cord for a day or so... just like new!
greetings!
i just got off the phone with Susan, (main mpaa number ext 343) who is a manager (i didnt ask which department). i was asking why certain individuals were being targeted with cease and desist letters while others were not. i also explained to her how the mpaa.org web site links (a series of links, 10) to the decss source itself. i also asked her if the mpaa was going to send cease and desist letters to itself and disney (goto.com). i invited her to read this story on slashdot and responses to get a clearer picture.
she was friendly and was very interested in this discussion.
she didn't know that through a series of links there are millions of law offending web sites out there (including most of the plaintiffs in the 2600 case). i'm hoping to infiltrate the mpaa employees with the truth so they can see how idiotic the mpaa's antics really are.
cheers!
wouldn't it be cheaper than $150 million to just keep some good lawyers in court?
i've found MRTG to ROCK!!!!
if you haven't used it, it's worth a look for sure. it does network and machine monitoring and is highly configurable.
