    If you burn the copy, warts and all, wouldn't it still play identically to the copy that you bought?

    i remember back in the commodore 64 daze, i wanted to copy a game called Summer Games by Epyx. back then, they commonly placed an error on the disk that the game would look for before it would run.
    in order for me to recreate error number 29 on a 1541 disk drive, i had to take my drive apart and hardwire a few connections just for the error making.
    wow, things have certainly changed...

    the problem is not if users will pay 7 cents per access of a particular site. it's the transaction costs that are the problem. so, a website charges 7 cents. however, the transaction costs are 25 cents (or more)..
    this is where the real problem lies.

    Why would a company center its business strategy on an operating system that only holds a very, very small number of users compared to other operating systems?

    because some companies have a good vision of what's to come.

    please don't take this out of context! when Lorne says 'us', he is referring to users of linux and supporters of the GPL. Not MySQL (although i love MySQL, don't you? it's lite, crisp and effective for any site that's not ebay.com... i don't get the ebay contracts too often anyways, do you?).

    your post is so completely on target. when we look back 100 years from now, we'll all know how the DMCA attempted to steal our rights and how a case (maybe not the 2600 one) stood up and challenged the unconstitutional aspects of the DMCA and won.

    i feel that the DMCA won't be completely thrown out, it will just be re-written. the whole concept of copyright needs to be re-reviewed now that we're really entering the digital age.

    use a package called html2ps. it can be found here. have a page generate the report, you can wget it if you have to. then convert and send to a printer.
    if you wanna print to client machines, then use samba to send the print jobs to windows or linux clients.

    whoa, hold on buster. sure, going from point A to point B direct? yes, you are quite correct. HOWEVER, who is stupid enough to do something malicious on the net without hopping ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE first?
    this takes me back to early eighties, phreaking trashing daze.. when using a stolen long distance id#, i'd hop from sprint, to MCI canada, blow an operator offline at a pbx, back to the US and then to the intended target (just try and trace me through all that analog equip).
    anyways, today isn't much different. what 'hacker' out there doesn't have 10+ hacked accounts on 'forgotten' university boxes with shell accounts? gimme a break.
