    i've looked at new construction and every new house i see, the frame is built from CLT, not you 2x4's. of course this is national builders, not your local contractor who knows how to build a whole house.

    new homes are built from Cross Laminated Timber, which is itself made from the leftover parts of wood and trees
    no one cuts trees down anymore just to build a house

    internet is interstate commerce since the data will cross state lines, which means its subject to federal regulation

    anything that goes on strictly inside the state is not subject to federal regulation

    how do you know where the video is being served from? for all you know it's from 3000 miles away and has to travel over 3 or 4 different networks

    hosting video content on the internet without paying a CDN or directly peering with ISP's is asking for trouble

    we have a lot more news sources than 20 years ago. trouble is the kiddie bloggers rarely do more than link to an original news source and comment about it. These internet news sites need to start doing their own reporting. maybe start up something like AP or Reuters for investigative reporting and other hard news for internet news sites

    yeah they have settlement free peering, but it's L3 sending most of the data now. and they want verizon to upgrade because they send so much data.

    wait till verizon will start to send a lot more data back to L3 to see what their reaction is going to be. with all the cloud services starting to have very nice free levels of service give it another year where a lot of people will auto upload a lot of data and edit it in the cloud.

    yeah, lets see how much L3 cries now that things might get a little more balanced. i bet they will suddenly want to be paid a lot more

    biggest problem with upload is you send it over free links with Tier 1 networks, or you pay them to take your traffic. with all the user generated stuff now like Twitch, flickr, video calling and other services where you want a fast upload speed that's a lot of data to be paying for.

    with the current L3/Verizon dispute i wonder if they struck a deal where verizon will allow the connections to be upgraded for netflix to work on their network in exchange for L3 taking all their uploaded data for free.

    Most of Youtube is professionally produced videos where youtube shares the ad revenue with the creator. That's how people make money to be able to produce more videos.

    you either get rid of advertising and pay to watch each video, or you put up with advertising. My account is enabled for revenue sharing, but i rarely upload anything and don't rely on it. but if took and produced videos and relied on ad revenue, i would stop very fast if i didn't get paid.
