But where is the info stored?.Net supports active directory. MS expects you to migrate all of your employees from the NT registry to an active directory based LDAP database. Exchange 2000 is being sold to ASP's and LDAP is at it's heart. My company is going to MS based web services and.net too, but the ldap database will be the heart of it with all our employees and customers
I'm in the process of helping deploy active directory. MS Windows comes with some LDAP tools that aren't too bad. I'm still in the learning stage so I can't frame a good opinion, but first impressions are OK. But like everything Windows if you want to get into the guts of the OS you'll have to dig around for the info. MS prefers you use their MMC based admin tools which don't give you much control.
As soon as government starts paying out real market competative salaries they will hire decent people. And when they will be able to fire the scrubs. Currently it takes an act of God to fire a government employee. One has to steal or kill someone to get fired from the government. And so you have a lot of dead wood around.
it will turn out like almost every other government run program. Overbudget, and late. By the time any government program mean to compete with the private sector comes to fruition, the private sector is already hard at work on the next generation version.
I can encode mp3's at 320kbps on my XP box at home. I just use the software that came with my audigy. There are plenty of crippled MP3 programs out there. You just have to find a good one.
Why is MS so bad for thinking of this first? Why didn't Real or Apple think about this? Maybe that's why MS is so successful. Because they have good business people that can think up of new ways to grow the business.
Ok stupid, what exactly didn't you understand? What wasn't resolved? You do realize that the story is going to be continued in 2 more movies. Maybe you just have to wait. If you don't like it blame it on Tolkien for writing a trilogy.
Globalization is actually very good. As the cost of goods drops people have more disposable income. In fact in the last few decades industries that thrive on disposable income have boomed. There are more jobs created in other areas to make up for those lost. Whoever said that you have a right to work in what you choose. Sometimes things don't work out and you have to get other skills and change careers.
First there was a story about the NSA key in the registry. Then the source code supposedly was stolen by hackers last year. And the law is that before you sell any crypto software overseas it has to get a license from the NSA.
Why would the Chineese want to open their systems to the US Government?
that SW fans are the geekiest. They even beat out those weirdo ST fans who learn klingon. Some say SW and ST are fiction. I say it depends who you ask.
Well lets see, smoking pot is illegal so if law enforcement starts to spy on you where is the problem? You're breaking the law. As far as everything else you'll probably just get labeled into the crazy weirdo category and no one will care.
But who cares about guns? Just follow your state fireamrs laws and you're OK. No one spies on you because you're weird. Only if you're a suspect in criminal activity.
And so. Have you ever conducted any criminal activity or spoken out in favor of a revolution against the United States Government? You think they really care about your concerns?
contrary to/. belief. It specifically states that law enforcement needs a search warrant before searching your property or person. Now since they didn't have tcp/ip or telephones in those days it's up to the court system to update the meaning of our constitution as times and technology changes. That's how it has always worked. If you're a suspect and a search warrant is issued our law enforcement agencies have been able to search your property for the last few hundred years.
LOTR less than a year to make it to DVD and Star Wars is going to take no one knows how many years?
As far as the movie i saw it last night and it was great. Unlike star wars the evil characters actually acted and looked evil. Believably evil. Not funny austin powers evil like sw.
Are there VC's who are actually pouring more money into this? Haven't they learned with the.com crash that you can't turn a profit running a free service. And who wants to pay to download music they can rip themselves or from friends?
Where did you get these numbers? My company has just under 700 employees in several locations around NY, NJ, Penn, and Mass. We have 7 help desk people, 3 NT admins, 2 database admins and 2 wan admins for networking and firewall. And we seem to have a lot of spare time in our mostly windows network.
Uh, Win2000 server is $995 with 5 CAL's I think it is. Win2000 AS is $4000 with 25 CAL's. Then you have to buy copies of windows 2000 pro or the client access licenses if you still use NT or 9x.
The HP linux version most likely has a ton of features for enterprise level installations. And no you just can't drag any MCSE of the street. Sure any MCSE can make and disable user accounts, but when you get into dns, dhcp and properly setting them up it requires the usuall knowledge and experience. Go to any MCSE message board and you will find out that the networking exam which deals with dhcp, dns, ras and other networking services is the most dreaded of all. Simply because it requires real knowledge and understanding instead of knowing what to click when doing some other windows task.
It's common knowledge that some ISP's collect info about where you surf and sell it. My solution is to run my own DNS server even though I'm on dial up. It may not be foolproof, but it's a start.
Are we becoming like star trek?

First we have international trade and monetary agreements like nafta, european union, european common market and the upcoming north and south america trade zone. How far away are we from a one world federal union? Europe is already moving to a common legislature and and some common agencies like approving corporate mergers.
I think in the next 20 years as trade zones evolve we will see the union of trade zones until there is true free world trade. Then in our lifetimes we may see the start of a common world government.

Sounds good. May have to check it out as a cheap file server. I wonder how it will compare to EMC though.

Are you refering to being laughed at, ridiculed, and pissed on by drunk college kids while sleeping "real human contact"?
And the funniest thing is that me living on the east coast, I'll see it before they do. And I'll get the tickets the same day on the internet.

I never read the book and liked the movie. As far as being like D&D you're right. Just like a dungeons and dragons game.

Uh, no. It still costs a fortune to migrate to a new OS and platform.
