Smaller cities have new movies. Columbus in Georgia had a few really nice theaters and the new movies came out the same time as in NYC and LA. Only thing in NYC and LA are the preview showings 1 week prior to opening. But the ticket prices are cheaper in the smaller towns.
Only reason text based was popular was because there wasn't enough horse power for graphics. It was the quality of the game that made it poular. There were probably a few bad text based games. Just like today's graphically rich games. There are good and bad, just like in all products. Text based isn't better than graphics. And what's wrong with trying to see what your new $300 video card is capable of? Some of us can't wait for the day when game graphics will be indistinguishable from real life.
Only problem is for cheaper items the buyers usually try to get as cheap a shipping method as possible. Medial mail or parcel post most of the time. When you mention Fedex or UPS they begin to cry about how expensive it is. And if the item comes up missing they cry that you owe them their money back.
A small company designs something and a larger one tries to steal the idea. And yes anyone could have designed it. But immersion put in the time and resources to do it and that's why they should have a monopoly for it for a short time. Otherwise no one would bother to make new things. Why spend time and money on R&D when someone else will just steal the idea and make money of it.
Anyone who thinks Amazon is a high tech company is dreaming. It's nothing more than a catalog retailer like Fingerhut or LL Bean. Jack Welch, ex-CEO of GE even commented on this. Everyone thought that some of these.com's were tech when they were building warehouses to distribute books and CD's like many present day companies. And these same people were calling GE a dinosaur while they were researching the latest in plastics, jet engines and other high tech stuff.
In the crazy times of the last few years Amazon overpaid for the land where the warehouses are based, and for the warehouses themselves. I've heard that they are only at 30% of capacity or so year round except for the holiday season. Instead of being high tech, Amazon has had to master such things as distribution channels and inventory management. Concepts that are decades old and have been perfected by old time competitors suchas Wal Mart.
Then there is the debt. Around $2 billion worth. If Amazon can convert the debt to stock then it would free up tens of millions in free cash flow and really let them invest in the business and grow.
"I'm sure it will work just as well as Verizon's cell service does now."
I don't know where you live, but here in NYC Verizon is the best cell carrier out of the bunch. Only time I've ever had a busy signal was on Sept 11th, and I get a signal almost everywhere I go. Unlike ATT, Sprint and Nextel around here.

Apple a superior platform? Only now in OS X are we seeing protected memory. Windows has had it for years. I almost laughed when I had to allocate memory to an app on a PowerMac a few years ago.
And I was in CompUSA over the weekend and the cheapest G4 they had was $1699 without the monitor. What a rip off considering it had only 128MB RAM and all the components except for the BIOS and CPU are identical to a PC. Is OS X really worth that much of a premium over Windows 2000 or XP? I've used both without crashes or reboots for months at a time.
Hey stupid, the government gets money from the tax payers. They would have to substantially raise your taxes to pay for this. And everyone elses. And who would run it? IT people don't come cheap. More taxes again.
So if I buy Redhat 7.2 or Suse and it is later found out to be full of security holes then I can't sue them under this proposed law? Why not? They sold it. MS Windows is full of third party apps that MS licensed and included as part of the package. Look at IE, most of it is written by someone else and licensed by MS.
Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, MS WIndows and a bunch of other products have holes in them that SANS tells others about. Has there ever been a piece of software with no security holes?
Average user has never heard of SSH. Apaches were an Indian tribe. And PHP sounds like illegal drugs. And the salesperson will tell them that they can only run the software in the little Apple corner of the store. Now why are they going to pay more for a mac vs a windows machine? And all the mac support people I talked to say they crash just as much as windows.
Maybe it's Compaq SmartStart and the unattended setup file they create, but IIS is installed by default with Windows 2000 on compaq servers. I know because me removing it is one of the first things I do when I configure a windows 2000 server.
Time Warner Digital cable is $80
Local phone from Verizon is $40
Cable Internet $50
Long Distance Anyone's guess
Does the package include international calls in the price? How about pay per view and all the extra pay channels? If you get unlimited worlwide long distance and local phone service then it's a great deal.
If they can limit it to a very few tech minded people they've achieved their goal. You can never eradicate piracy 100%. Napster was a threat because it was availble to so many average users and no real tech knowledge was required. Just install and download all the music you want. You don't really have to eradicate piracy anyway. Just make it hard enough that 90% will never figure out how to do it and you're good to go.
Uh, no. DNS is the locator service for AD, hence the need for dynamic updates and service records. If you're running AD integrated zones you store DNS data in AD. AD data is stored in.dit databases.

From what I have heard their wireless unit is the only non-unionized part of the company.

to hold all the info about you like birthdate, medical records, genetic map, criminal record and all the porn you've ever downloaded?
Your Hello World program is exactly the same as Johnny's. You fail. You're kicked out of school. Good bye.

The article didn't go into specific services. If they give you unlimited worldwide long distance then it's a great deal.
What if you mother, father, wife or kids got anthrax from the mail? Would it be worth it then?

Most likely to cut down on the hogs using p2p and other file sharing programs.
will be the first quantum CPU? Does AMD have something in the works in this department?
that most of the average users don't care. They are happy with their dial up AOL and don't see a reason to pay another $20 a month for broadband.
