And who says this will be like england? This will most likely be a checkpoint in an airport where your face is compared by computer to those of known terrorists and wanted criminals. There should be no reason why your facial patterns would be stored in any database unless you're wanted for a crime.
You already lose privacy when you travel. Airline tickets are usually bought by credit card so law enforcement can track you. If you drive cross country you have to fill up with gas or get cash along the way.
PS to the last post. Go to the Army Times Website and see if you can do a search through the archives. A lot of people in the military were nervous about the vaccine and any health consequences.
I spent 8 years in the Army and I remember a conversation I had with some Gulf War vets in 1994 in Saudi Arabia. The US saw Iraqi forces massing near Kuwait and my unit was one of the first deployed to play speedbump.
After everything calmed down we used to sit around at night and talk. Quite a few of the senior NCO's in the unit had light symptoms of the Gulf War Syndrome. This is what they said.
The protection from chemical weapons consisted of a suit, mask, non-FDA approved pills that were illegal to be consumed in the US and boots and gloves. Supposedly a scientist took the suit, mask filter and the pills and mixed them in a lab. What he got was nerve gas. The suit is a charcoal filter. I think the mask was the same. Not sure about the pills. Never heard that story on TV. Supposedly the scientist was fired.
Just like the Citibank across the street from my office is searching bags of anyone entering the building airlines can search passenger bags. Government offices like courts search bags upon entry.
Airlines are private entities. They can search any bag that comes on their airplane.
It's been reported in the news that as many as 12 hijackings were planned on 11 september. If we improve security enough that we can prevent 95% of them it's a success.
Face scanning and biometrics are only a piece of the puzzle. They are not the only thing that's going to stop the terrorists. There are background checks for all airport employees, air marshals, a federal police force at the security checkpoints and other measures.
Quite a few air national guard pilots quit instead of being vaccinated. They didn't trust the governments safety claims. They are all airline pilots and were afraid of not passing their next physical.
Don't forget psycotics. After the Egypt Air crash a few years ago the theory was that the pilot committed suicide because of depression.
As far as your comment, state governments require you register handguns, automobiles and other personal property. When you go to a rock concert you get checked by a metal detector. All you stock trades are recorded just in case the SEC needs evidnce against you.
My personal motto is you have the freedom to do anything you want until it can negatively affect me or someone else. When people get together for common activities they have to give up personal freedoms for the security of everyone. We have laws that not everyone can drive and how to do it safely. Just like driving, air travel is a privilige and not a right and we may have to put up with inconveinences to make sure people live through the experience.
You have the freedom to travel anonymously all you want. No one will stop you from riding your bike from NYC to LA. But if you wish to use a mode of transportation that is owned by someone else you may have to put up with inconveinces.
My guess a face recognition station will be like the metal detector. And I bet they will make you take off any hats or sunglasses before they scan you.
It's really stupid to think that after WTC they will just put a few of them up, scan randomly and pray they catch someone.

It's not only the airlines. If security personel do their jobs well they get harassed by the passengers. Everyone wants to know why they are being searched because they aren't a terrorist.
The photos of the hijackers were on file. And they were very good ones too, not those taken from 1000 yards away. If we had put a face recognition system whereby everyone who boards a plane is scanned and compared to terrorist photos on file we may very well have prevented it. Ditto for scanning faces during entry into the US.
Remember you don't own the airplane. The airline have every right to know who's boarding their $100 million toys.
Even if she bought a new computer from gateway it's still a loss for them. Home PC's carry ultra low margins. That's why the tech support sucks. There is no money left over to pay for the techs.
This will kill their rep with the analysts. At least for a while. Thinking about buying ebay stock and taking AMD as a tax loss. If they start to improve then I might buy them again. Ebay is great. It's pretty much a monopoly and unlike MS increasing sales.
Flash market sucks. CPU price war is killing them. Their business isn't going to be good for a while. Gamers and overclockers won't make AMD's revenue grow.
I meant quite a few scientists worldwide get their education in the US. I don't mean them working for MIT, but getting the education in the US and using that knowledge in their home country. The US has the best education system in the world and everyone makes use of it.
US colleges and Universities teach thousands of foreign students. What is to stop someone from getting a degree in mathematics at MIT, going back to his home country and creating a strong encryption program?

When Jack Welch was CEO of GE he only retained the best employees. And in 20 years look where GE is. How much of a benefit was it for the rest of the economy. European employment laws are a recipe for disaster. Maybe that's why it's so hard to find a job in Europe. People are afraid to hire because they know it's almost impossible to fire someone who isn't a good employee.
But that's the way technology went after the advent of the PC. Why get tied to one supplier for all of your networking needs when you have open standards? In decades past if you wanted to deploy a messaging system you needed to purchase all hardware and software from one vendor.
Today you have multiple choices of different servers, network hardware, OS's and messaging platforms. Why reinvent the wheel every single time?

Why not just have a database of terrorists, wanted criminals etc. At a security checkpoint your face is scanned and compared to those in the database.
This way you have a much smaller database that is easier to replicate as it changes.

No, the law enforcement poeple will just take you into a back room and beat the truth out of you. If you check out you will be allowed to travel.

Who would pay for it? Who would host it for free?
It's either watch the ads or pay for content. They have to make money somehow. Someone has to pay the bills.

I guess they aren't making enough since they are going to post a loss. Again. If gateway stopped selling the processors HP/Compaq could be next.
Who cares how much better they are if no one is selling them.
