    that and amazon and others all oversubscribe the hardware
    we have vmware servers that use twice the physical memory that's in there. 2GB to an instance doesn't mean it's always using 2GB so you can add more instances

    they got where they are by riding on the back of the networks and content built and made by others and now don't want to register as a cable company when they are providing cable services like everyone else

    lots of people use personal computers to VPN to work

    what's the worst thing that can happen if the site is hacked? any CC info? how much money will be lost

    not every site and data should be treated like fort knox. keep your emails for CYA purposes and keep doing what you are doing

    the HP drives are guaranteed to work in our HP servers with RAID controllers. no spending weeks doing money work figuring out why something doesn't work
    we call in and stuff is replaced since everything is HP. no blame game saying its the other manufacturer's fault

    once or twice i've had drives fail within a day or two of each other in the same RAID5 array. having a replacement on site FAST can be the difference between drinking beer at night or losing tens of millions of $$$ of data, spending hours restoring it and losing business in the mean time

    that 6TB database i have might take 2 days to restore and in the meantime customers won't be able to access their data

    enterprise drives have this thing called a warranty
    i send a log to HP, and within 4 hours i have a new drive delivered to me. and they all have NCQ while most consumer drives dont

    artists make about average profit margins for a business after expenses

    the big pop artists spend a lot of money on advertising. you think its an accident how the photogs always catch lady gaga wearing weird clothes?

    by the time you pay for recording, marketing, itunes/amazon and all the other expenses you get some for yourself and then you have to tour. just like every other business today. most products are loss leaders and you need a high margin product to make all the profits. in music its selling the recorded version of your music which is the loss leader. the profits are in the touring

    most of the small businesses who sell online use one of the many off the shelf or cloud solutions out there. or they use amazon's website to sell their wares. most of the older crap amazon lists is really sold by someone else.

    any small business trying to write their own code for this is plain dumb
