Why when we are called to unify in this nation (or any nation for that matter) are we called to unify behind the most opportunistic and duplicitious
people in our country- politicians.
They do none of the grunt work in operating the nation but expect absolute control for the institutions they build to carry on their spirit of control.
Just wondering why anyone would trust them at all.
If you are that afraid for your life maybe you should stop driving, because if you truly want to be safe then driving is the most dangerous thing one can do in the modern world. The chance that you will die in a car accident is far greater than a terrorist attack.
Why is the word freedom being associated with danger? Maybe the issue of freedom vs. security is not the problem here? Maybe there are other nuances in the argument that have nothing to do with freedom vs. security and those in power are taking advantage of the hysteria to distract us from more fundamental questions that would have an effect on their budgets and system of control rather than the lives of the average citizen?
I think most importantly people need to realize that the body is a temporary edifice and that no amount of surveillance and "security" is going to protect it from entropy.
Maybe just maybe if our society was a bit more loving and kind and our government spent less than 90% of it's budget on weapons and soldiers our world would be a kinder, gentler and most importantly safer place? Just imagine if one spent 90% percent of their income on weapons and security
for their home. Would that person really feel safe or would they be more fearful?
I have decided for my own mental health that it is time to move on and attempt to spread as much support and peace as I can. I have been occupying my thoughts with what can be built on the spot where the trade center stood and the healing of the citizens of the world after this atrocious and sickening occurence. Another thing that I have started doing is listening to classical music.
I agree with pretty much everything you said except this:
There are so many ways to infiltrate these groups, there are existing ways to harass their activities both within the US and without.
This is actually one of the areas in which the U.S. has been weak. To illustrate this point allow
me to refer you to the opinions of a former CIA
agent who operated in Afghanistan.
You forget that what becomes law here will become law everywhere via the WTO. There is no escape we must fight both the government and the transnational corporations untile they have the proper regard and respect for the sovereignty of the individual again.

Yep. Thats why many of us are protesting. We no longer live in a democracy we live in a plutocracy.
Thre are going to be large protests at the meetings of 2 of the most avid promoters in DC at the end of September.
Tell your friends and be prepared to educate people on the issues of liberty, technology and free speech that you feel most concerned about.

Not only that but we all have friends and family we can communicate with to counteract the effects of corporate/state propaganda. It takes one person to influence thousands possibly even millions to question the status quo. Maybe voting etc may not be important but we still have a window of opportunity to inform as many people as possible about what is going on and to encourage them to be active. Don't give up! Yea right and lock picks are used soley for breaking into houses. Come on, this is one of the most ridiculous pieces of rhetoric I have ever seen. By your logic if a person locks themselves out of their car they should be arrested for using a close hanger( access circumvention device not approved by Ford motor, i.e... ebook reader not approved by adobe or )to pop the lock ( access control) to get into their car(ebook).
My biggest question is why are you defending this stupid law that violates our civil liberties? Are you an IP lawyer?
There are plenty of reasons for breaking an access control device and writing softweare to do it efficiently. One could be pure necessity (I lost the code to my ebook on CPR and I need the info to save my friend from choking on a hotdog and the manufacturer is not being responsive and thinks anyone asking for info is a criminal).
Another could be curiosity a person may just one to see how the access control device works. May be the access control device conceals the possibility that the software in question is being used for spying.
Anyway, just trusting the government and corporations on this one will surely lead this nation into a full on tyrannny by the few at the expense of the many.
BTW the way do you have scientific study or source that proves the assertion I extracted from your comment above?

Well the people ostensibly choose their government by voting. So in a sense if people want their government to regulate the market and prevent market distortion from occuring then it is their civic duty to vote politcians into office who do so. If it is the opposite than the people should vote a government in that allows a monopoly.
The problem is that large corporations now legally buy politicians and laws by proxy therefore the playing fields and the market are seriously slanted in favor of large monopolistic corporations who are now more often than not behaving as if they are governments. My source is an AP story pulled of the wire for sfgate. I don't know why they would lie about it. IT was a legitimate concern at one point. Read the article:/ archive/2001/09/17/national1723EDT0792.DTL

Of course it could be wrong but AP reports are not exactly known for their sensationalism.
