    Copyright or IP is not about protect author's rights.

    It is about encourage information production and exchange.

    If you just focus on the property side or profit side of the problem, you also hurt the goal that people got more and more difficult to produce and exchange information. If you publish an essay, you will be afraid to accidentally sued by someone, how do you feel wanting to write? Blog?

    If there is still people wanting to produce, do not tighten the control. If people feel copyright is too big a problem for them to produce, loosen.

    The society is now in my opinion that copyright or IP protection is over protected. If you look at what search engines, news, databases are doing these days and how many law suits they receive you understand that control is serve. The IP laws have hurt the production of information. It is working against its goal.

    If IP is important, it is time for us to loosen the laws.

    Actually, any party which provide software (firmware) should provide source code:

    1. If they want copyright protection
    2. For security, it should be legislative to have all user have access to the code for inspection for security reason.
    3. For inspect of stolen code.

    The software industary is hurted by close source. The new generation is learning in the dark, every team have their own coding secret, no outsider can have understanding to their coding, it hurt the education and new comer.

    Copyright law should benefit the flow of information and knowledge, not to ban it.

    Allow others to re-use your code and modify your code for new feature or bug fix is your own decision and court's ruling.

    Provide source code to gain copyright protect. No close source and copyright protection.

    Provide source codes should be required by law!

    GPL also bad!

    This is about how to view the profit:

    1. If you want to tap into a constant cash flow, without risking into a new business, that is what apple is doing now: cut others' profit

    2. If you wish to develope a new platform one that as large or larger than PC: you boost the platform and help the platform concor the world. The business plan can be ads, computing as services, etc.

    What I have seen in Asia is that people buy the 1.1.2 OTB which is not working as a phone but was very happy!

    People still want one, of cause they hope one day it will be unlocked, use it for other purpose.

    If the iphone can not install new apps, what people will buy?

    Jobs, it is about a new platform, not just a phone!

    Think big, Open Open Open!

    I do not own one, but I play the virtual machine.

    It should come with a version like that of eeePC. The so call interface is very very bad.

    If they decide to use python to write the menu system and let the students access and play with the code. That is fine. However, I would like to have it written in shell.
