Exactly. If I write software, and release it under the GPL, it says alot about MY character and politics. Mainly, I am writing software for the end-user. If that user CHOOSES to pay ANOTHER company a per seat license agreement, why should I interfere? This is alot like sticking my nose where it doesn't belong. Part of the reason that code is given out is because people are supposed to be free - free to modify to suit one's needs, free to choose software based on the strength of its code, and CERTAINLY they should be free to execute that code on ANY platform they wish. Somehow it seems as though Stallman is leaning less towards the free as in speech and focusing more on the free as in beer....

I wonder what it would take to replace XP's version of the explorer shell with the simple plain version that 2K used. I know that there is an appearance option that does something similar, but it's not good enough.

That said, I would love to replace IE with Mozilla 1.0 (not here yet), Outlook Express with Evolution(not possible), Messenger would be stricken from the hard disk and replaced with gAIM (not possible). Media Player would get swapped for Xine (not possible), and I would use Sun's JVM. Y'Know, I have all of these things on my Mandrake partition, and I love it! Why bother with windows?

You make a good point, and how exactly is this any different than getting up to go to the bathroom, or changing channels during a commercial? It is up to the advertisers to come up with new draconian technology to keep us all glued to the screen. Until they strap me down to a chair and tape my eyes open (while applying eye drops and playing Beethoven's ninth) I will choose not to watch cheesy commercials. Now there ARE commercials that I do watch. They are the ones that are clever, funny, and amusing. If all commercials were amusing, I would be less likely to "skip on the spot".

See Spot. See Spot Skip. Skip Spot; skip! Skipping Spot is stealing. See Spot steal. Good boy spot!
