  1. Re:Integration of tools on In Which OS Do You Feel More Productive? · · Score: 1
In particular, if you want a Unix capable laptop, you'd probably spend over 3 weeks tinkering with Linux until the system works properly (and it might not for recent hardware unless you hack it yourself - software modems, suspend to disk, wireless access, switching to external display, good power management). In a commercial environment that isn't worth it. Think your salary for three weeks vs. the price of the computer. And that's why in computer science you now see so many mac laptops when you go to conferences ...

I have a generic laptop (green732) P4 2.8 and installed Fedora 2 core flawlessly. Everything just worked. Didnt have to screw around with anything. All this for half the price. But what drives me nuts in all other OS's is the lack of a workspace switcher. Multiple 'desktops' are a must, sure beats pretty icons and a cult membership.

although OSX is 'unix' under the hood, I still cant stand the 'bubbly' backwards interface. Another great reason is to play around with the source code on a different platform. Although I would never buy an apple product, if someone gave me a mac, I would wipe the OS immediately and install linux.

My guess is that when the next 'big thing' mmorpg comes along over half of these subscribers will cancel their accounts. Something ive observed is that most people who play these games jump from game to game. EQ1 had such a large user base because when it came out it was almost the only game in town. I remember when city of heroes came out, the servers were bogged down, now theyre pretty sparcely populated. Most people quit after a couple of months. I remember when EQ1 had exact numbers of people on each server, funny when i started to notice fewer people playing, this feature was taken away...

personally ive played many of these games and they are almost all the same, simplistic and boring after a couple of months.

  10. Unbias of the CBC, pure crap on CBC Opens ZeD.cbc.ca Code · · Score: 1

Please give a solid example of CBC being biased towards the left. And looking for a TV show or radio piece, not just the normal "the cbc is left"

ok heres a personal story in dealing with the 'reporters' of the CBC

During the 2000 elections there was a news story that the langley/abbotsford Reform party MP Randy White was using a missing/murdered 10yr old named Heather Thomas for political gain. The 'reporters' approached the mother of the then missing girl and briefly showed her the news letter by Randy White and she went ballistic on TV.

Now the truth of what really happened. The so called reporter is a member of the Federal Liberal party. Randy Whites news letter showed a picture of the missing girl asking if anyone had seen her (note there were thousands of these pictures printed and distributed everywhere in BC) They never asked Randy White what happened, just slammed him in their 'news' broadcast.

Why did Randy White even print the picture? because the family asked him to. I know this as the fact as I am the one who contacted Randy White. I asked Heathers mother for permission to contact local politicians because we were all suspecting that this was a murder case and wanted to know what the lawmakers would do to change the laws on child killers. anyone with kids out there
think about this, how would you react to hear that some politician was trying to use your child for political gain? Heathers mom just lost it... like most parents would do and the CBC 'created' this news story to slam the conservative MP during election time. decidedly very left wing thing to do...

As far as Im concerned the CBC is nothing but a puppet arm for the Federal Liberal party and should be completely disbanded...

Yet microsoft slams opensource and other forms of business models because it isn't a traditional method of 'cost + profit'. How is selling an X box at a loss any different than a .com company depending on add revenues?

Yet Microsoft slams this as an unworkable business strategy... hmmm seems to have worked for Sony Playstation.

This is just another F.U.D. campaign by microsoft. Theyve actually found something they just can't buy up. Makes it tough to sell expensive, restrictive bloated bugware vs Free, reliable software... and thats the bottom line.
