One of my favorite examples is when one of my cow-workers was tasked with writing a simple script.
Do you hire cow workers especially for the indian market?
I'm tired of reading Microsoft sponsored research that attempts to make Windows look better than it really is.
As a matter of fact this is not the main subject of the article. The research was carried out by accadys and Microsoft throughout Europe to find out how users used their machines.(The title of the article is about the fact that 28% of user time is spent on messaging/internet -- I wonder if they calculated my time on/.) Finally the article concludes by saying that Acadys recommends using open source software.
What would happen if other things in the world were free? What if budding designers and contractors demostrated their skills by building free pubic buildings?
You obviously believe everything that is fed to you. Would they possibly confess: "Yes actually we are going to warm the Lake up, but actually I do not really care because I will have made a fortune by then!" I doubt it.
Come on guys, get a clue! Parent is right. You just cannot cool something warm with something cold without heating that thing. It's a pure energy equation.
Even if you do not return the water to the lake: what will replace it?
Now I am not saying the this is a bad solution, I'm just saying the water temperature at the bottom of the lake is bound to warm up (which is globally less extra heat --globally speaking -- than would be generated by just using Air Cond.)
Good point! As a matter of fact, Wine might have made sense years ago, because "Linux did not have the applications". Now the applications are getting there, so I do not see the point of such a project. It's just adding a layer of bugs.
I don't know if Y!Messenger is inferior or not. But I've got to the point where I'm fed up : If Y!, MSN & others do not want us, what's the point? I've moved on to Jabber and suggested to all my friends to follow on. If they don't tough luck for me; I could still reach some through MSN gateway (until oct 15th?) I will not relog into Y! again and if MSN breaks again, I'll take it as a sign...
And as stated above : afterall "cool people use Jabber";-)
Could you define "deserve" please?
Could we for example assume, for example, that a chick who dresses attractive deserves rape?
That a kid who got bad marks at school deserves being hit? etc...
I joke a lot with collegues. But I do not (ab)use my IT advantages; there are plenty other ways, which keep the odds fair.

Errr.. Let me see... 127.0.0.1
Parent comment is ridiculous.
Especially, Firefox/Mozilla extension work on xpi basis, which is closer to rpms that the Gentoo-recompile approach.
To be more specific: The parliament represents the citizens, the council represents the states.
The commission represents itself (!) and it is that institution that has to power to write the laws!
Anyway this is all plot to come back later and say France is hiding WMDs!!!
Wow! One step short of Godwin's law! Maybe it's time for an update.
No. I paid for it I want to see it.
Well... This sorts out the open vs closed source issue.
Watch out! You're probably aiming above, the average /. crowd here!

Listen, I NEVER pay for pubic building! Right?

So... If you are distributing somehting under a license which is invalid. What does this mean?
This one ? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb; en-us;216641
But that was Win98, surely they are non running a DB server on Win98.

I suppose, ESR's fetchmail is an easy to configure application?
I unfortunately did not read this book in english. It seems Dan Simmons calls the "Extros". Probably a reference to Extropianism.
Mmmm... I wonder if the Chinese political prisonner who is about to be shot could get away with it by claiming it's Ian Clarke's fault!
The expression "free beer" comes from the free software definition. And if my memory is correct, it also outdates the Simpsons.
I'll bite... As "Not" stated here...

OK. No intention to be agressive, just being provocative to make the point : "When do you set the limits of deserving something?"
Could you define "deserve" please?
