I agree the real problem is "self taught" civil engineers can be sued and jailed if their bridge or skyscraper falls down. We all know that you use a program at your own risk. When programmers will step up and say that they will take a hit in their wallet if their work fails you will then be able to call youself an Engineer .
You have never done any drawings in AutoCAD have you? True Autodesk is now pushing VBA but for the last 15 years AuoLISP was the only way of making the CAD program do the dumb things that programs are good at so you can think about getting the idea across in the drawing.
I think that they are also counting the last half of the law that has something to do with protecting naval ship hull design (sic). How that got stuck on to this law beats me. The ways of congress are strange and and often involve small sums of money (funny what a few million will get you in a 1.5 trillion dollar budget).

The.Net bugs should be worked out by then.
The best books I have seen for some one new to Linux are the manuals that come with the SuSE distribution. Of couse it being SuSE you have to pay to get the DVD to install it but the manuals are worth the price. I haven't seen Mandrakes or Red Hat's manuals for a couple of years but they were crap back when I was starting out.

Can you tell me what software will be used in business in ten years? Ten years ago it was DOS, 123, and WP 5.1. Teaching them Office XP will not mean anything in 2012. What is need is a flexable understing of What a spread sheet or word processor can do. Finding what menu Microsoft, Sun, IBM, or Corel put the feature on this year doesn't matter.
As for the dumb HR people, they will always be with us. Fatten up the resume and put both Open Office and MS office on it. You can find the right menu/toobar easy enough if you really know either one.
No but Israel did help with the South African nuclear program before it was shut down by the South African goverment. There is still that unexplained flash that occured over the southern Indian Ocean that was detected by a US spy satellite.
AutoCAD has not been available for the Mac since Release 11. I doubt that a ten year old program will run in OS X! But if you are going to spend $3000 on AutoCAD you can probably pick up a good enough PC for $1000 or so.
3dsmax5 also will need a PC, Autodesk has been brown nosing Microsoft for about a decade now. You might want to spend a few extra bucks on the PC though, dual processors recomended, 3ds max5 tech spec

After seeing the election ads in a state far from where I used to live I have too agree. When you don't know the history of the jerks running you wonder why anyone would vote for them.
Maybe the USA should just do away with the elections and pick someone by lottery. The looser has to serve the term. Of course you would have to give them tests to make sure that they are not crazy and have an IQ of at least 90. That should filter out the mastakes like George Bush.
For crying out loud the hardest part of any project is finding out if it can be done at all. If you give a company a working model I am sure that they can write it in another way. After all if it is GPL it has to aviod patents. If you such a poor programmer that you can't see how to do it better or at least another way you should use your feedom to inovate by getting a job you are qualified for.
