    >> screw shareholders out of billions

No, dude. It's shareholders who screw THEMSELVES out of billions by buying Google stock at astronomical prices. No one forces them. In case of Google, no one even promises them a gold mine. Google's position is neutral here. You want to buy our stock at $450? Be our guest, we'd be stupid to discourage you. Don't expect us to ever reach a sane P/E ratio, though, because we've never promised you that we will. Brin and Page realize themselves Google is ridiculously overpriced. They both sell their stock as fast as they can.

I'd just feed all the paperwork I receive in a week into it and have a searchable archive. Unfortunately, the industry is run by morons and it's not gonna happen.

Verizon, Covad and Comcast sure aren't going to like this one. If this shit works, three wireless hotspots (channels 1, 6 and 11) per apartment building will be enough. If those hotspots are open (as in Linus) or open for a small(er) fee (as in Bill) - they'll get 1/4th of that. If this takes off, Verizon will need to learn to live a much leaner life.

  17. The entire industry is based on lies on The Future of Digital Camera Technology · · Score: 3, Informative

They tell you the camera has 8MP, but "forget" to mention that in reality it has 4M green pixels and 2M of each red and blue. And there's a blurring filter in front of the sensor to reduce moire. So if you photograph fall foliage, your 8MP camera turns into a 2MP one at best. In the BEST case, it's a 4MP camera really, not 8MP.

The only sensor that takes full RGB readings at each sensor location is Foveon, but it suffers from inferior color reproduction and lower ISO sensitivity. It's also pretty low on "real" pixel count - currently at around 3.5MP (which in Canon/Nikon terminology would be called 10MP, because each pixel takes full RGB readout). Foveon pictures are extremely sharp, though, and render textures very well. If they solved their color reproduction issues and upped the pixel count to "real" 5MP - I'd RUN to the store with my credit card in hand to buy a camera based on this sensor.

  18. Divorce is often a better option on No Same Sex Marriage In World of Warcraft? · · Score: 1

Divorce is often a better option. When parents hate each other's guts, it's better to get divorced. Divorce doesn't mean that the father (or mother) instantly forgets about the kids he (she) left behind. Divorce is also unavoidable. The situation where a gay couple adopts a kid IS avoidable and SHOULD BE avoided for the sake of the kid. The kid can not make an informed decision. He/she should not be forced into a family that has abnormal and distorted (men aren't technically designed to have sex with men, you know) values and sexual preferences.

  19. It's all fine and dandy on No Same Sex Marriage In World of Warcraft? · · Score: 0, Troll

I have no issues with gay marriage. If gays want to fuck each other in the ass - that's their business. My only issue with the whole thing is that I think same sex couples should not be allowed to adopt/raise kids. A kid needs both mother and father, IMO. Otherwise you're just messing him/her up.

Once we close this threshold - I will do whatever I can to help ban gay marriage for this reason alone.

  21. Learn to say NO on How Do You Job-Hunt If You Work Overtime? · · Score: 4, Insightful

Quite often additional job responsibilities are given not because of evil intent of the management, but because employee is eager to take stuff on in hope of a raise or promotion. This is especially true of new employees just out of college. Make things mechanical. Plan how much time your current workload will take, and once there's an attempt to add something on ask what part of the stuff you currently do your manager wants to "load balance" to someone else. If he has no intent to do so, warn him that things will take longer and some things may not be done.

You will end up working a little overtime (just to recoup the time you spend browsing slashdot at work), but things will become controllable. Working more than 10 hours a day and more than 5 days a week is unsustainable. So it only makes sense to do so if you need or want to do it temporarily, to, say, meet a deadline or to get rich in a startup. Pre-deadline crunches shouldn't last more than two weeks, though. If it's more - your management is doing something wrong and you should simply refuse to come in on the weekend or stay late.
