Fucking idiots. Instead of working with the industry on a micropayment systems that would allow me to buy books in electronic form at way less than $50 a piece (of which the author is lucky to receive $1) they will sabotage this stuff, and when it finally comes of age three or four years later they'll cite decreased revenues (of course, you morons) and "intellectual property violations".

I could understand when this is used to prolong the lives of people with extraordinary abilities (excluding ability to make money), but making a regular stupid CEO live forever is like wiping one's ass with a stack of hundred dollar bills. Not comfortable, insulting to the ones who are worse off, and utterly not necessary.

  7. I just hope it won't be George Lucas on Might Episodes VII - IX Still Be Made? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I just hope it won't be George Lucas. Let's face it, Star Wars could have been 10 times more dramatic and interesting than it was, and George Lucas' storytelling and directing skills are pathetic. He's a good businessman, and a visionary, but that's where it ends, really. ROTS, while better than the previous two installments, falls short of what it could have been. The story of ROTS would barely fill 20 minutes of screen time if it wasn't for CG.

That's exactly the problem I've tried to underscore. As far as I'm concerned, diesel cars should be at least 30 percent of the cars sold, and I shouldn't have to pre-order them and wait for half a year.

No way! I don't remember when I bought anything but groceries, gas and movie tickets _not_ on the web. I also trade stocks, manage my bank account, bills, etc. completely online. The bubble has burst, but the technologies have stayed. If you recall, five years ago we didn't have much of what we have today in terms of e-commerce and e-everythingelse.

  12. Their numbers are bullshit, though on Software Piracy Will Get Worse · · Score: 2, Interesting

The "value" of pirated software is much lower than that. If you talk about "value" you kind of assume you'd be able to sell the same software to the same people for your MSRP. This just ain't so. The populace some of the listed countries is ridiculously poor. They aren't going to pay half a year's salary for office after spending their life's savings on a low-end PC.

There's no excuse for the Western countries, though. As ridiculous as it sounds, by pirating software made by large corporations you're helping those corporations to stay in the business. You see, you could have used alternatives and supported the people behind those alternatives. This would in turn generate competition and drive the prices down and quality up.
