Eh, wot's wrong with an Ultra 10 or dual-processor Ultra 60 as a desktop system? And why does he need a foreign nation to tell him what to do when the people in his back yard already know. Is this yet another case of the conslutant knows better (than inhouse staff)?

    Me wish list:

    - 1+ GHz UltraSPARC III (dual processor capable).
    - Cheap industry standard memory (no over-priced proprietary Sun shite).
    - Support for EIDE/ATA/whatever-the-fsck its called these days and U320 SCSI.
    - Onboard GigE, Firewire and Universal Silly Bus 2.whatever.

    Starting price of $995.

Next product suggestion will cost you one million dollars.

If are in the GTA and you want useful stuff, other than ancient junk and crap, check out http://www.factorydirect.ca/ or http://www.cwo.ca/. I picked up a 24-port 10/100 SMC switch for $159 CAD (about $2 US) awhile back, most recently I picked up some HP branded Orinoco Gold WiFi cards for $69 CAD (about $1 US) and a 100-pak of CD-Rs for $25 CAD.

Around here, the local cell phone companies think their customers are either dogs (Fido) or monkeys (Telus).

According to http://www.freebsd.org/java/dists/13.html, only 2-3 weeks ago did 1.3 pass all of Sun's compatability tests. We're still waiting for a solid 1.4 release on FreeBSD because of the nonsense requiring X, or at least Xvfb, to be running to support Java graphics calls - what was Sun thinking? Right, Java was originally designed by a bunch of 20-something kids at Sun that never had any experience in the real world doing languages...
