2 Reasons FM is used more than AM.
    1. FM was the first to have stereo (meaning left and right sounds, infact FM was created for stereo). So it became the norm for stations to use FM for music, and AM for mono talk radio. Eventually stereo AM was developed, but never used, very few radios support stereo AM as it would be an extra cost for a feature they fear noone would use. It won't exist until customers start demanding it, and they never will.
    2. FM allows the radio to control the area they are broadcasting in for advertisment, it considered very bad to broadcast into an area that doesn't carry the product your selling. While AM tends to bounce around everywhere, and you have little control.

Of course, neither FM nor AM radio can carry much bandwidth, but thats not the point of this discussion, or what it the entire point?

You can, you just have to know what your doing, its not like someone who spent their entire lives working on a Mac could just sit down and expect to be able to configure a full Windows2000 enterprise solution without any problems, so why should be expected to be able to sit down at linux and be able to run it without any learning.
Convert to VB? VB is a programming language nothing more, I'm sure if someone really wanted to they could write a VB compiler in linux,
(working around the obvious hooks to windows api) but why?
There is absolutly nothing slow about C, though I personally prefer C++, slowness is in the coding method and the complier, there is nothing "slow" about C anymore than any other language. Anyways it all comes down to the classic vi/emacs war, you can produce the same results with both of them, its just a matter of what your comfortable with.

First of all your VB experience doesn't mean anything in linux, I'm pretty sure there isn't a linux compiler for VB. Second of all you said you configured the system from scratch, and recompiled all the programs in what you believed to be a better compiler. Sounds to me like you built everything yourself, then blamed someone else when it didn't all work perfectly. Personally I have never (never meaning sometime after linux became well known, of course in the early days in had to be done by scratch) heard of anyone who first introduced themselves to linux without the help of a basic distribution. How often has it been said that the first MS Office user in an office eventually "forces" the whole office to upgrade, simply by passing around files in the latest default format.

I remember one computer our office got last year, it installed 2000 by default and when I tried to remove it and install a site licensed copy of 97 it installed, but told me I had an invalid license whenever I tried to run any of its programs. I later tried to reinstall with a win98 disk. But I couldn't get the device drivers out of the install disk as it was locked to only be used as a reinstall everything disc from boot. Tried many things, never could get it working perfectly without just letting it be on office 2000. So as our site licenses offered us 2000 Prof for less then 50 dollars a peice I went ahead with the upgrade. I do like office 2000, but still embarrased that I let MS get the best of me :(
