  1. quick question on Red Hat 6.0 · · Score: 1

Hey, just a quick question. Does anyone know how to get the sendmail that is included in Starbucks to accept mail to an nonexistant dns. For example say my server is joe.com and someone sends email to john@hi.joe.com and I have not made an entry in my dns for hi. in the old version I could use a wildcard to show that I will accept mail from *.joe.com but now due to security reasons wildcarsds are not accepted.. Is there a way I can make a workaround for this?

Accually the price has gone down. If prices had kept up with inflation we would be paying much more for cds then we do now. Though it still pisses me off that the price of audio tapes are still cheaper, considering they cost more to make. But honestly 10 dollars is what the record companies see as the intellectual (this is a stretch.. but you know what I mean) value of a cd and the extra 4 or 5 bucks totaling the cd to 15 is for extra value from the packaging, coverart, jewelcase, shipping. With the record companies artist make less than a buck per cd usually. Though with the record companies big artist where promised so make millions or records would be sold. These big artist who are breaking away from their record companies are taking a HUGE chance. And the price reflects the fact that they are very unsure about just how many copies will be sold. And honestly I would have a hard time convensing a top selling popular artist that they will be selling any more than 1/10 of what they where selling with the record companies. So they muliplied their profit per cd by 10 in hopes of making the same money. Now once this takes off and artist can be confident they will come close to sales in the days of the old record companies (they probably won't surpass it in a while considering in online music there will be so much more compitition with the little guy) they will be able to reduce their prices to what is resonable. Hopefully this will be in the 3 to 4 dollar range. So everybody hang in their, its going to be a bumpy ride. But soon, we will provail!

  7. Standard Test on Red Hat's Certification Program Questioned · · Score: 1

I realize this, but what I'm saying is that the test needs to be common among all linux bases. Lets say for example that some guy is hiring people for an office that already has say RedHat set up in thier network. While virtually anyone with linux experience independent of distribution could handle this job. The boss is most likly going to hire the guy who's certificate says "RedHat" because he recongnizes the name. Unless we can make it public knowledge that a linux certified person can handle all distributions equally (well almost but we don't need to get into that), certifications should be universal. Let them take the "RedHat" classes, but make em pass a standard linux test. Of course noone can force RedHat or any other group to support the standard, we sure can press the issue. And my other and completly SEPERATE point is that the idea of many levels of certification aka the MCSE (sure microsoft is evil.. but we can still learn a thing or two)

  8. Standard Test on Red Hat's Certification Program Questioned · · Score: 1

    just to add my $.02
I like the idea of RedHat offering certification classes, but I also think it should be standardized. RedHat should continue offering the classes, which are a great way to go for people who arn't comfortable teaching themselves, but the test should conform to the LPI standard. That way there would be no difference between a RedHat linux certification, and say a Debian certificaiton. I also like the idea of modular program where you can be tested in different areas, allowing for someone to be just an admin, or a programmer, or even a master as described in an earlier post.

While I abhor pop-ups like everyone does, when we start picking and choicing which standards to incorperate and which ones to leave out, we become no better than the guys creating proprietary standards in IE and Netscape. Now one thing that can be left out safly I'm sure if that onexit command or whatever its called that allows a site to dictate a final command when you leave a site. This command was created at the request of advertisers, and is generally only used to keep people from leaving a site unless you purposfully crash your browser. That is true of conventional 3d goggles, but the type being experimented with in the story is direct retina feed. Meaning your eyes don't focus at all. It's projected directly on your retina, this would be analogious to jacking a display directly to your brain almost. Although they diffinetly would need to work out eye detetion menconisms for something like this so that the display can respond to movement of your eyes, otherwise you could quickly develop lazy eye, I would imagine or some other weird symtoms.
