Sony spent a lot of money to help IBM develop the Cell processor. You can be sure that they will receive a significant percentage of profits from its production. Unless they were just morons when they wrote up their contracts, which I doupt.
I seriously doupt Sony makes 175 profit on each system sold. Its probably a story of total profit fom game licensing accessories etc for each console sold averages about 175 per year.
Thats actually the main problem with most spyware. They write the software quickly and bad. A piece of software running in the background that doesn't want to be noticed shouldn't hog resources or make the computer crash. AdWare is notorius for this.
There is a difference between buying off thugs and buying your way into their leadership position. Doesn't mean they won't jump ship and become thugs somewhere else though.
Wow, I didn't believe you, thought maybe you meant per year, till I looked it up. It must be a really really good game if people are paying those prices. I just don't get it.
Many people said the same thing about IBM, and they haven't. Seriously?
If IBM dropped of the face of the planet, would it.. A) Cause an economic downturn as people can't get their work done without IBMs support. B) Stop the development of many major project that are anticipating IBMs next move, and trying to be ready to meet the world with complimentary products. C) Leave a lot of IBM employees out of work.
Personally I'm hoping its not just about the money. Essentially what New Line did was give away merchandizing rights to its sub-companies instead of selling them at fair market value. While I don't think Peter Jackson really needs MORE money, honestly many companies are doing this exact thing to screw over their artist. So I say horray for Jackson for confronting this scheme of the Movie Industry head on. Sadly there is no way of knowing his intentions for this though.
Japan is a fairly small country. The cost of running new high speed lines across the US would be astronomical. Remember the US is the lowest density per area of any developed nation. Its hard to provide universal services here. Personally I'm surprised we have such an expansive interstate system. One of the many things we can thank the cold-war for. Thank you Russia!:)
Generally id software releases a windows version that can easily be run on linux with a small download. And a linux version thats tough to get to run on windows. Which would you buy? Most pople buy the windows version even if they plan on playing it on linux. So the stats on linux sales for id are a bit off. And I seriously doupt id lost any money on the linux boxes. Obviously the correct path is to release both linux and windows on the same CD (generally just an extra executable). And not to release extra boxes, that may or may not sell.
Personally I think that if you live in city limits, the city partially owns your land. And as long as the city is willing to pay a fair market value for my property let em have it. I don't understand what all the griping is about. This wasn't just about the economic interest of the private coperations, but about the overall growth of the city itself. Just as your landlord can kick you out to renovate, so can the city. But atleast the city will pay you something for the touble. Now if these people didn't get a fair market value for their property, I'd understand. But thats not what the case was about.
Unfortunately, it's likely that no definitive proof will ever be produced, as the problem space is simply too large to be calculated effectively, and no provably correct shortcut has yet been found (despite much effort).
Watch that word "ever". Computers are becomming faster all the time, certanly SOMEDAY chess will be solved. (Unless of course civilization is destroyed first)
Exactly, because while chess can be a game of strategy, it can also be a game of math via analysing moves till the end of the game. Just as there may have been people who could do math faster than 1920's computers, one the computer got the upper hand there really was no turning back, and no chance that a human could be as fast at simple calculations. Chess is the same and honestly a person may occasionally win in the next few years. Soon it will be completly solved, and no human will ever beat a computer again. (Assuming an unbeatable human goes first solution isn't discovered)
Actually they probably intend to make it easy to run XP in it. Thus they can advertise its dual-booting capabilities. People will buy it because its a MAC when you need a MAC and a PC when you need a PC. Now it would be interesting if MS turns around and makes it incompatible. But I doupt it.
Well generally it does have something to do with the bill. For instance an Appropriations bill that gives the FCC its money will also declare what the FCC can do with the money. One of these items will be to give it the power to create the broadcast flag.
No but paypal often locks up entire accounts over a complaint. So if you frequently keep hundreds of dollars in your account, you could be royally screwed and put out of buisness over one false complaint. So you funnel the money into another account as quickly as you can and don't let paypal take it out.
The slowdown is very small with includes, as its simply dumping a file in the middle of the output stream. Precombining these files makes updating much more difficult.
But are there any good applications for helping you do this. For programmers there are plenty of great applications that will help you manage your code, while still letting you hand code yourself. Do this really exist for the web? Seems like there would be a market for them.
Not nessesarly, there are a lot of new DRM schemes in which you purchase rights over the web which give you a key to unlock the format. If it used an open encyption standard this could potentially be done right. Of course its still possible to break all DRM.

I think its a matter of why buy XP now then turn around and buy Longhorn in a year or so. When I can wait it out and just buy Longhorn.

I'm voting for C!
With 13 speakers each speaker doesn't have to be very big, generally small speakers mounted on or in the wall will do it.

Actually many are starting to do just this, using VOIP technology.

Or just lump it with the John Katz stories. Whatever happend to that guy. Some agree goth kid shoot him in the school halls or something?
Actually Japan was already trying to surrender at the time.. To the Russians. As the cold war was already brewing this was totally unacceptable.

Of course the fun happens when I sell my old Divx player to some sucker, and they try to play DivX movies on them :)
Of course if circuit city or any big name tried this to unload old stock they could be sued into oblivion.

I believe the space non militarization treaty stops us from colonizing the moon. Other planets possibly, but not the moon.
