It's very simple to use "as is". If you want to do SSL, client side certificates, or just understand the syntax of the workers2.properties file you are going to pass a lot of time searching with google. BTW, most of jk2 is not documented or poorly documented.
While it's true it isn't a bug in httpd Tomcat is used by a lot of people as web container for jsp pages. A lot less than httpd for sure, but for those that use it is a very serious issue. We are talking IBM (bundled a version in AS/400), Borland and others big name here. And others products may be based in Tomcat code for all we know. This bug could let access to your database password in many cases.
There are lots of free-and-ready-to-reuse java libraries for almost everything but the difference is that you have to do the search. For MD5 you probably should the standard crypto api from Sun and the open source implementation from BouncyCastle. In any case Java comes with lots of api that you should investigate.
Why, here in Argentina we have legal monopolies. For example telephones: North part of the country network is for Telecom (french company) and the south part for Telefonica (spanish company). No unnecesary competition to alter the natural balance of the market, ok? (don't answer, the government already did for us)
Favorite quote: "People will start trusting the system now that it's linked to credit cards."
Yes, truth, in death and taxes. Because the economic crisis here (in Argentina) we citizens discovered that we are usually robbed by the banks emitters of the cards . In a recent investigation report (sorry, just spanish) of the tv program.Doc it was the explained that they do this with fake amounts with strange descriptions (like "charge for reserve of funds"). Normally it was assumed by the users these were administrative charges. But the charges were just an illegal way to increase rates.
The biggest failure of the movie may be the set design and the look.
Why SF must be futurist? In most of Philip K. Dick stories the idea is more important than even the story. Perhaps here the message is that out society will not advance in the next 50 years.
This seems a false claim to me, a careless acusation or flaming. You have only to download the sources for Java and check yourself because Sun Java is open sourced. Check also the previous posts and is obvious that a five minute search would have cleared all doubts: Java is not guilty.
Ok, I misunderstud the term corporation assuming it aplies to institutions, my apologies if I'm inexact. You have reason to resent your tax money being used to save some distant country that didn't anything for you. It's just that one of the many sources of problem here is the national debt, mainly to IMF, banks and funds that happily gave money to corrupt governments to incredibly high interest rates. They didn't care who where they giving money then. But don't worry, our goverment will pay every cent (already did it multiplied but doesn't seems enough) if it means to starve every children in the country. Curiosly private international banks (like Citibank where I have an account) don't want to give people the money they own. Blame Argentina.
You are right in calling our politics corrupt and that we elect them. It just that we don't have others around here. You see, in 1976 we had a military dictatorship (guess blessed by who) and after that 30.000 people were missing, probably many of them were honest politics.
The IMF doesn't seems particulary interested in bail out us anywhere, just pressing harder.
This was a little offtopic, sorry. Surelly Bill G. just has to call our President and give commands, after all every other government, corporation or institution is doing the same. That is in the papers too:-)
Actually here in Argentina we are kind of property of corporations. The IMF (International Monetary Fund) practically dictates the economy. It would take just a telephone call from USA embassy to government to turn off one such initiative. And no, I'm not exagerating. Just check the local newspapers.
Í agree that investigation should not be stopped but this is just a case of mad doctor playing to be god. Have you heard this guy talk? He says god helped him. Do investigation on cells, do it on animals, don't do it on humans until it is safe enough. And don't bank on the feelings of people who can't have children or want to resurrect dead familiars. He is mad or playing with people who don't understand the danger of the experiment to the new born.
I'm not opposed to investigation on clonning or genetics, but it scares me something. There's many sci-fi stories in which everyone on the planet dies horribly by some experiment. Just a little mistake in the laboratory and all life erase, and it can happen.
By the way, some years ago I predicted to a friend that someday making human virus would be little more difficult than computer virus. Imagine what will happen when the technology goes to the public hands. Virus that make addvertisament on your skin?
Saying that cloning is inherently evil would be stupid. But this "doctor" created an embryo that has a great chance of being malformed or suffer genetical diseases. And he seems to have done this for publicity. To use a technology -which effects are not fully understand to this date- in that irresposible way is criminal to me. Perhaps in 20 or 30 years will be (statistically) safe to clone people, but it is not now.

Could someone give us a Subversion vs BitKeeper technical comparision?

I think that adult takes legal responsability for the minor acts. It may be different in each country, some lawyer should be asked.

I prefer something that works extremely well and fits well into the internet / interoperability / multiplatform philosophy.
You could do the same with C/C++ using Doxygen, a free tool that implements Javadoc style documentation for C.

There is lot of interest on embedded Java (in phones, smartcards). C isn't the only game in town.
