Part of earning my living is done using the gEDA tools to reverse engineer old CNC controls. Linux is no toy for me. I'm sure there's a few network admins and others who are also glad there's a legit alternative to the Microsoft universe for doing real work.
i just put Debian Jessie on an older laptop to fart around with some LinuxCNC after several years of using *buntu near exclusively. I like it, there's something reassuring in having a definite root user account again. Xfce is crisp on this old celeron with 500MB memory... I'm old-school and was getting into computers before Microsoft was much of anything. They have epitomized all that is wrong with corporate power from the beginning. I don't trust them. I don't want anything to do with them. I don't want to be tied to anything that's tied to them at all, if at all possible.
"The love of money is the root of all evil." When you see evil in something, it is wise to separate yourself from it...
i would suggest it's time for we voters to scrap both parties and we, the people, start anew with lots of fresh faces fully aware that the next step for the people involves pitchforks and nooses......
I have no idea(thankfully) what the Microsoft experience is like these days but it'd have to be awfully pain-free to beat my experience with *buntu boxes for the last several years.
The trick is not to fall into either/or traps. There should be availability for both state and private options in all feasible infrastructure services. Maintaining a fair balance of those interests seems to be a task far beyond the will or capabilities of the vast majority of our current representatives, I recommend we remove them and see if a bunch of fresh minds can't handle the job better.
I signed on to Frontier DSL service with the representative insisting that I would get 6Mb service despite my many attempts to get her to qualify that as a max possible speed, and tell me what I should actually expect. She wouldn't hear any of it, 6Mb is what I was getting... It's been a fairly reliable 1.5Mb max for the past 2 years, never more, at $30/mo. I've got a "30Mb" service offer for $10-15/mo more from Country Cablevision that I may have to try out since Frontier seems to want more than it provides....
If any of you are tired of watching the corporations run our government please consider adding your name to this cause: http://www.movetoamend.org/
Burn yourself a variety of Linux liveCD's to try out and see which one works best with your hardware, and you. You'll really be kicking yerself in the butt for not ditching Microsoft earlier...
There's an answer right here... http://www.movetoamend.org/ Take away their grossly overdone influence on legislation/politics and they may decide to play nice with consumers again. As is, they could give a flip about our problems, there is no down-side to abusing their $ enabled power.
This. Too many people still believe that just a change of President will make everything better. If the people don't effect a massive replacement of "establishment" politicians with true representatives of the people, any individual or few threats to the establishment will be dealt with as necessary. This is worth billions to a few people calling the shots, getting dirty is what they do. The gooks are inside the wire people, it's time to call "broken arrow".
Your sarcastic argument presumes that those who are sitting on the nation's wealth earned it, and that those laboring to produce the wealth are getting a fair return for their labors. The daily headlines of corruption by the wealthy and their corporations, compared to the stories of average citizens struggling to stay out of debt to the corporate world, is evidence to the contrary. Socialism, capitalism, communism, anarchism, etc. all have characteristics suitable for certain situations in societies, but none are the right solution for all circumstances. The sooner we wise up to the "label and divide" politics around the world the sooner we'll have a chance to find the best governance solutions for more of the world's populations.

Then you may want to add your name and voice to this attempt to curb corporate power... http://www.movetoamend.org/
Historically, tyranny is usually not far behind confiscation of arms.
