Putin's explicit goal is to undermine the democratic governments in Europe and here. Trump sought and got help from Putin to win the election. Are we at war with Putin? Not a hot one, but he is the enemy.

  5. Did she lie about it? Did they assist her in the election? U.S. has had it in for Assad for decades.

  6. The First Amendment says that congress can't restrict the freedom of speech, not that you won't go to jail for it. Because Congress passes all the laws, you can extend this concept to say that any federal official cannot restrict the freedom of speech in their legal capacity as an officer.

Clearly, Trump did not use the office of the presidency to mute people on his own twitter account. On the flip side, Democracy needs more than just laws to survive. Having a thin skinned, vengeful tyrant lead a democracy is not healthy for it.

  7. How many times has Trump and crew denied meetings with the Russians?

It doesn't matter who says it, Donald is ridiculous.

Do you remember last week after almost a year of downplaying Russian attempts to influence the election, Donald reversed course and blamed Obama for not doing anything about it?

Even though Obama did do something about it, and Donald is *still* trying to reverse those retaliations that Obama started?

    Ridiculous. Dishonest. Traitorous.

  10. What's the difference between intent and motivation?

Murdering someone for sleeping with your wife is not the same crime as murdering someone for money. Usually a profit motive is aggravating, leading to a worse sentence. Crimes of passion are usually charged with lesser homicides. It'll depend whether you plot to kill the guy or just kill him in the heat of the moment.

Hate crimes are attacks on people because of the type of person they are. They terrorize that type of person. Hate crimes are terrorism. This country doesn't like terrorism, so we punish it severely.

  11. The only difference between murder and not murder is intent. Within the realm of murder, negligent manslaughter is a less significant crime than murder 1. All determined by intent, not outcome. Do you want to do away with that? Even within First degree homicide, there are aggravating factors that make the crime legally worse, like murder during a robbery, or murder during a kidnapping, including murder for profit.

So at least in some states, murdering for money gets you worse sentence, just like murdering for hate can get you a worse sentence.

Do you want to do away with all that?

Obama did respond to the attacks, he just didn't do it publicly. Whether he should have gone public without Republican backing, I don't know. But he didn't turn his back on his own country, like Mitch McConnell did.

  14. Somebody will do it.

  15. "I mean, that could be used if someone wanted to create an art exhibition of burning crosses, nooses, etc"

As with many crimes, the intent matters.

"It is worse if they killed the white guy for his money, or if they killed him for his race?"

Is it worse if they kill him for money, or by accident?

Is it worse if they kill him for his race, or because they thought he was a threat?

The end result is the same. Should the punishment be the same?

  16. Are all radical Muslims terrorists now?

  17. To people who don't know what it means. The idea of protecting white people over blacks or vice versa is bereft of morality, but the idea of protecting people from discrimination based on race is not.

  18. Yeah, we noticed that plenty of Americans favor dictators over presidents. It's possible to vote the destruction of your democracy. You guys will prove it because you can't stand its weaknesses.

The report is that Obama would not go public unless Republican Senators would back him up, but they refused, warning him that they would attack him for playing politics with foreign affairs.

Either the evidence didn't convince them, or they didn't care about the attacks. You can decide for yourself which it is.

Hate crime means whatever judges and juries think it means, based on the words the legislature wrote the law. That's how any crime is defined. Another proper label for "Hate Crime" is "Terrorism".

"While the law is written such that motive is considered, thats completely different than the motive itself being an additional crime, which is exactly what "hate crime" is.. and additional crime added on."

No more so than "Killing a federal judge" is a different crime than murder. It's not. That just makes it a federal crime.
