    Interesting article... too bad the guy left out costs like development costs, paying for the content creation for the site, support, etc... All he looks at are bandwidth costs versus ad revenues.

    I don't think all these .coms are having problems becuse they can't afford bandwidth, they can, they just can't afford bandwidth and employees.

    As opposed to all the "original" stuff that hack Shakespeare cranked out??? Retellings of histories and stories appropriated from old folk tales...

    Hell, people probably heard the Epic of Gilgamesh and were like "Another Hero Quest? Geez..."

    I mean, its was an OK sci-fi show, but nothing spectacular other than the above average special effects for TV of the day.

    I wonder if they will acknowledge that horrible Galatica '80 show or whatever it was called, where they were running around on earth with flying motorcycles.... shudder.

    Of course, they ruined Buck Rodgers the same way when they went off into space and started looking for other earth civilations, brought in Hawk... why do they ruin perfectly good shows like that?

    Why is that sad? There are plenty of scientists, but far fewer who can play professional football at the highest level. Supply and demand. Plus, you have to factor in the fact that the average career of a professional football player is 3 years... actually, the compensation differences don't seem that large.

    From what I recall, doesn't COPA (Child Online Protection Act) keep companies from collecting any data of anyone under the age of 13 years?

    Actually, it refers to personal information, such as names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses... not aggregated information. I mean, otherwise kid oriented sites wouldn't be able to keep traffic logs and such...

    Here in the U.S., no such legal recourse exists.

    Sure there is... if a company violates its privacy policy you have every right to sue them.

    I like the US policies better anyway. Let the market decide how valuable your privacy is. If you have Store A and Store B selling the same product and A has a strong privacy policy and higher prices and B has cheaper prices and a weak privacy policy, why shouldn't people have the ability to make this tradeoff?
