    schools hate bad press

Yes, schools do hate bad press... The problem is, the media in America have been reporting the school shootings of late as an 'epidemic', and people keep waiting for it to get worse. Anything the principal did to "Make the school a safer place" would be considered a Good Thing by the locals, not bad.

Unlike most injustice, this one won't be helped by publicity, because someone has to, for the love of God, think about the children!!!

  2. Ask SLASHDOT?!? on Open Source Tax Credit? · · Score: 4

This sounds like something you should ask an accountant, and, if you can get away with it, tell Slashdot... All that this sort of question will do is get a while lot of speculation, and an overuse of the acronym IANA(T)L...

From a brief glance, though, it doesn't seem like it would qualify. This cut applies to software produced for internal use, from the looks of it, and Open Source projects are meant to be used by the community as a whole... However, remember... IANAL...

  3. Once again... on AI Movie Promo · · Score: 5

Once again, the Slashdot community charges off to tell us about another movie tht is made by the MPAA, a group which has been (successfully) attempting to take down 2600, and trying to strip us all of our freedoms.

Look at some of the movies they've supported. The Matrix. X-Men. I shit you not, The Emperor's New Groove. Over and over, Slashdor shows us that they're willing to take a hard stance over something, until such a time as it becomes inconvenient.

I urge everyone to avoid this, and any other MPAA movie, until such a time as they stop attempting to deny us our rights. Take that 7.50 and give it to the EFF, or to 2600's legal defense fund. As long as we keep watching the "cool movies" they put out, they will never take us as a serious threat.

Hell, we're some of their best customers.

    Sprynet
    Netcom
    Sprint
    OneMain
    JPS

This is just a very small sample... EarthLink owns, last I checked, somewhere around 20 different ISPs... And they just keep eating.

Bullshit. You can become root... You just have to have half a fucking mind to be able to do so. You go into (I believe) the utility known as Netinfo Manager. Go to Domain>Security,>Authenticate, put in an admin password, and then go right back to Security, and you can select 'Enable Root User', which allows you to log in as root, (Long Name:System Adminstrator), use su, sudo, and all of the other wonderful aspects of having root enabled. It's disabled by default so that the typical desktop Mac user doesn't have something as dangerous as root when they don't even know how to use the power they have over the system.

If that doesn't work for you, you can use sudo chmod 775 /, I believe... But I'm not really much on the command line yet.

Laws like this are patently ridiculous. The only problem is, Teenagers don't have enough people standing up for their rights as citizens. There aren't enough lawyers standing up against the opression. After all, there are lawyers in any other opressed group, female lawyers, black lawyers, asian lawyers, etc... But, for obvious reasons, there are no tennaged lawyers. As a result, teenagers are under-represented, and thus easily opressed. Personally, I am working on my J.D. to fight exactly this kind of cause, opression of teenagers. This sort of ignorance simply can't be allowed to continue.
